The custody battle between Jon and Kate Gosselin has finally come to an end after more than 14 years, but there was still so much we didn't know about what happened in that courtroom — until now. Unsealed court documents are revealing some truly shocking details about Jon and Kate's custody war, including how it affected their children.

Jon was concerned with how the case was affecting the children.
In court documents that have been obtained by The Sun, Jon filed paperwork in October 2010 where he claimed that his children were having behavioral issues that made him believe they should no longer be filming for TV.
"Since the execution of the July 3, 2009 order, some of the children have been having behavioral issues that Father believes are the result of the stress associated with filming and he does not believe at this time that continuing filming is in the children’s best interests," the documents read.
One of the kids was having an especially hard time.

Jon claimed that one of his daughters, who remained anonymous, had been having "serious behavior issues" at just 6 years old.
"During the week of September 5, 2010, she was suspended from school after throwing a chair at another child and hitting another child in the face," the document noted. "She was permitted to return to school on September 29, 2010, only after both parents met with the school principal and guidance counselor. She met with the therapist."
But even after she returned to school, she was still misbehaving, including hitting another child.
Jon claimed all of the children told him that they didn't want to film anymore.
But apparently, they felt like they had to, because Kate allegedly "told them that their father is preventing them from filming and, as a result, they will lose their house, will not be able to go to their school anymore and not be able to go on 'fancy' trips anymore."
If this is true … yikes.

At this point, Kate asked the courts for sole legal custody.
She said this was not to prevent Jon from spending time with the children but to make sure that any "information from the children’s schools, tutors, medical professionals, and all other authorities be communicated to mother only."
At the time, Jon responded by accusing Kate of making this request to "harass and annoy Father and in furtherance of Mother’s attempt to cut Father out of the children’s lives."
Jon has responded to the documents becoming public.
In a statement via his rep to The Sun, Jon said that he spent "every last penny he earned" to fight for his children, but in the end, he had "little to no say in his own kids' lives."
"Jon just hopes that people have learned from this and children in the industry won’t have to suffer the same injustice. That means that parents will have rights over their children’s well-being, not a massive network whose only goal is their end dollar," the statement continued.
There's no doubt that the Gosselins' career and legal battle has made an impact — and hopefully, over time, we'll see that it was a positive one.
