‘Sister Wives’ Star Christine Brown’s Custody Battle With Ex Kody Is Heating Up

It’s been three years since Sister Wives star Christine Brown left her polygamous family. She’s moved on since then — which includes marrying David Woolley in 2023 — but she’s still sorting out her life apart from ex Kody Brown. New court documents have revealed that Christine’s custody case against Kody is getting rather intense as she seeks child support for their 14-year-old daughter, Truely.

To recap, Christine sued Kody for child support in September.

At the time, In Touch reported that Christine filed to establish Kody’s paternity, since he was never listed on Truely’s birth certificate. She also filed for child support that she may be owed for their daughter, who has primarily been in Christine’s care.

Christine and Kody virtually attended a hearing about their case last week.

According to court documents The Ashley’s Reality Roundup obtained, the two were ordered to be present at a mediation conference on May 21, 2025, now that they’ve both completed their required disclosures. But in the meantime, the court has changed the way their custody case has been classified, hinting that things aren’t going well behind the scenes.

Christine and Kody's custody case is now considered a Track 3 case.

This means that the court has determined that the exes are having a “significant custody dispute,” and as The Ashley points out, the Utah State Court’s description of Track 3 cases is pretty concerning.

“This category includes cases with significant custody disputes, including custody disputes involving allegations of child abuse or domestic violence,” says the court’s website.

It also seems that their case may have been classified as a 'divorce.'

As blogger Katie Joy of Without a Crystal Ball pointed out in an Instagram post, the courts are treating Christine and Kody like a divorced couple. In reality, the two never legally married, so they never legally divorced, either.

We won't be seeing their hearings on TLC — at least, not this one.

The Ashley reported that the court ordered that Christine and Kody’s hearing could not be recorded or photographed. So while we’ll likely hear the exes talk about it on camera, we won’t see the actual hearing on the show. And when it comes to the family’s privacy — especially Truely’s — that’s likely for the best. For her sake, here’s hoping they’re able to resolve this quickly.
