The new season of TLC’s Sister Wives has started, and because it’s an extra juicy season with lots of drama, there is a lot of attention on the family. Message boards and Reddit communities are dedicated to discussing all the twists, turns, and troubles happening this season. And within one of those, critics discussed a habit they noticed one of the young kids doing and took aim at the parents, Kody and Robyn Brown.
Kody and Robyn have five kids together, part of the family’s 18 children in total between four women.
The third episode of the 18th season recently aired, and a lot was happening. More details came out about Janelle and Kody’s split, the estrangement of some of the older kids to their dad, and still dealing with the fallout of Christine leaving.
But one thing the critics zeroed in on was a small clip in the preview for next week’s episode.
According to the U.S. Sun, next week’s episode will continue the family’s struggle with the holiday season.
For the first time, the family is going to have Christmas separately with Janelle, one of Kody’s wives, and Kody’s ex-wife, Christine, doing their own thing, while Kody and Robyn plus Meri, another of Kody’s wives, discuss celebrating together.
A lot is happening, and fans have been waiting to see how this real-life storyline plays out.
But critics saw something in the preview trailer that left them feeling uncomfortable. “In the clip, the kids expressed their excitement upon entering the living room and seemingly spotting some Christmas surprises,” the U.S. Sun explained.
However, fans noticed that Ariella — Kody and Robyn’s youngest child — was using a pacifier in the clip.
The young girl’s pacifier use was pointed out, discussed, and debated on Reddit.
In the popular Sister Wives Reddit community, one of the recent threads was titled, “Ariella pacifier… 5-7? Even if this is 2 years old…”
A discussion began in the comments, with people finding issue with the young girl’s use of the pacifier.
'I noticed this as well. She’s now at an age where this is truly unacceptable and ridiculous,' one critic wrote.

“Robyn wants all of her kids to act like babies forever so she can maintain total control,” another commenter added.
“Omg. As a mother of a newly turned 2-year-old I’m getting ready to get rid of them,” someone else wrote. “This is horrifying.”
“That has to be sooo bad for her teeth,” another critic shared. “Yikes.”
And another Reddit user just wrote: “So disturbing.”
It’s never a good idea to question someone’s parenting, especially without having the full picture.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, parents should discourage the use of pacifiers after 4 years old. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry suggests discouraging that habit even sooner to help reduce risks associated with long-term use of pacifiers, including dental issues.
But there are other reasons a child may prefer to use their pacifier for longer. And we know that life changes can make a child return to some of their old soothing habits. Of course, we don’t know the full story of the Brown Family or Ariella, so it’s best to live by this motto: It's no one else’s business how someone raises their child.
