‘Sister Wives’ Star Meri Brown Says Kody Still Wanted a Divorce After She Did Everything He Asked To Save Their Marriage

Meri Brown tried to make her marriage to Kody Brown work, but the effort she put in didn’t seem to matter to Kody, she revealed during this week’s episode of Sister Wives. Though Meri and Kody had not been legally married since 2014, they remained spiritually married. Two of Kody’s other wives, Christine Brown and Janelle Brown, have left the plural marriage, too, which means right now, Kody’s sole remaining wife is Robyn.

Meri completed the things on Kody's 'list of things that he wanted me to do.'

On the Sunday, November 17 episode of Sister Wives, 53-year-old Meri Brown said Kody “had this list of things that he wanted me to do in order for us to work on our marriage.” From Meri’s perspective, she did everything he wanted. However, he still wasn’t interested in working on their relationship.

“Once I completed that list, he was done,” Meri said during a confessional. “I recognize now that he was like, ‘There’s nothing else I can ask. There’s no other thing that I can use as an excuse of why I’m not working on this marriage with her because I had done everything that he asked of me.'”

In 2023, Meri and Kody officially announced their split.

In 2023, Meri and Kody publicly confirmed that they decided to split up. At that point, they had already been legally divorced for nearly 10 years, but they remained married in the eyes of the church.

“After more than a decade of working on our relationship in our own ways, we have made the decision to permanently terminate our marriage relationship,” Meri and Kodi said in a joint statement at the time.

Meri said Kody ghosted her when she officially asked to terminate their marriage relationship.

Although Kody previously said “I don’t believe that we can ever be functional and I don’t believe that I will ever be emotionally safe with her” when talking about his relationship with Meri, she said he ghosted her when she asked about making their split official. On an earlier episode of Sister Wives this season, Meri said she texted Kody to talk about getting officially divorced in the eyes of the church.

“I texted Kody and said, ‘Hey, I started the process. In two weeks, if you want to give any input, have anything to do with it or whatever’ and he never responded to my text,” she said.

She was granted what is essentially a divorce.

On the same episode, Meri explained that she asked for a “release” from Kody, which “is basically the equivalent of a divorce.” The release was granted by the church, meaning Meri is no longer married to Kody in any way.

“It was a very, very hard conversation,” she admitted, adding, “this is not what I intended when I married Kody.”

She joked about a 'severance package.'

On this week’s episode of Sister Wives, Meri was moving from Flagstaff, Arizona, to Parowan, Utah. She asked Kody for help, and said it could be like a “severance package.”

“I was wondering if you’d be willing to help me load some stuff,” Meri said to Kody. “Then would you be interested in driving a truck up there for me? Call it my severance package.”

Kody seemed taken aback by the request. “It’s a weird space to be with the severance package thing because I don’t know if this is passive aggressive or if it’s just aggressive, or if it’s a joke and I don’t know,” he admitted.
