After 19 seasons on TLC, fans of Sister Wives already know the drill: At the end of each season, there’s a tell-all special to look forward to, when the cast sits down and hashes out even more of the drama that fans watched unfold on screen. More recently, these specials have been hosted by journalist Sukanya Krishnan, but in the past, it was Tamron Hall at the helm. And now, Tamron is opening up about how she lost the gig.
When Meri Brown appeared as a guest on The Tamron Hall Show, Tamron had a bit of tea to spill when introducing her. Before bringing her out on stage, Tamron reminded her audience that she was the one holding the mic at the Sister Wives tell-all specials for four years running, until she was asked not to return.
“I will be honest with you, I was told not to come back because some people thought that the questions were too tough that I was asking,” Tamron said.
She even admitted that she didn’t think that she wanted the job and at first, saw it as “a check.” But it didn’t take long before she fell in love with the Browns’ kids and grew attached to their family. It seemed like the feeling was mutual for Meri, who teared up when she came on stage and reunited with Tamron.
While chatting with Tamron, not only did Meri confirm that ex-husband Kody was never her biggest fan because of the questions she’d ask as a host, but she also shared her support for the way Tamron held members of the family “accountable” for their actions.
“I know that there are people in the family who struggled with your wanting to hold them accountable, which is why they didn’t [want you to host anymore],” Meri said on the show, via The Ashley’s Reality Roundup. “But that’s what you do! You hold people accountable, and when people don’t want to be held accountable, they kick you out of the club.”
In an interview with Us Weekly, Tamron said there was one question she wished she could have asked Meri and her former sister wives while she was still hosting the tell-all: “If they could have [Kody] without the other wives, would they?”
Despite her interviewing tactics ultimately costing her the gig, Tamron told the news outlet that she doesn’t believe she ever went “too far.”
“I believe when you go on a reality show, and you reveal your life that puts so much out there on the table,” she said, per Us Weekly. “I know sometimes people will say I’m asking what the audience wants to know. There are lines for me.”
