Travis Kelce Donates $100,000 To Help Two Kids Wounded at Super Bowl Parade

In the days following the mass shooting at the Super Bowl victory parade in Kansas City, multiple examples of both athletes and fans have stepped up to try to assist the injured victims. The list of those people giving generously now includes Chiefs star Travis Kelce, who has donated $100,000 to the GoFundMe campaigns of two young fans who were injured in the violence.

Travis' donations, which were made through his Eighty-Seven Running foundation, were made to a pair of young sisters who were celebrating at the parade with their family and now face months of mental and physical recovery.

Following the shooting, Travis issued a statement of love for his city.

Travis, who had clearly been in high spirits at the parade prior to the shooting, soon issued a heartfelt statement on social media. "I am heartbroken over the tragedy that took place today. My heart is with all who came out to celebrate with us and have been affected. KC, you mean the world to me," he tweeted.

Although he has yet to make another statement, his generous donation is a sign that Kansas City is still very much on his mind.

Travis' donation will benefit the Reyes family.

Kansas City's Fox4 reported that the 8- and 10-year-old Reyes sisters were both shot in the leg and were taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital, where they underwent surgery. They are expected to be in casts for several months and will likely need physical therapy as they recover.

According to the GoFundMe page set up for the family and donated to by Travis, the family was seeking support for "physical and mental recovery" with any leftover funds to "be saved for their college funds."

Travis wasn't the only member of the Chiefs to reach out to the Reyes family.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, visited the girls in the hospital prior to Travis making his donation, Scripps News reported on Friday. The parents of the girls issued a statement thanking the Kansas City community for their support and gave "a personal thank you to the staff of Children's Mercy Hospital and Patrick and Brittany Mahomes for their outpouring of care, love and support."

The Kansas City Chiefs are also stepping up to support victims of the shooting.

In addition to donations from individual players (and one internationally famous pop star), the Kansas City Chiefs organization announced on Friday that it was starting #KCStrong, "an emergency response fund supporting victims and their families, violence prevention and mental health services, and first responders. The Chiefs, Hunt Family Foundation, and NFL are supporting this cause with a $200,000 donation to ensure that we are helping to support the victims and first responders in the immediate aftermath of Wednesday’s tragedy."

Two suspects have been arrested in the shooting.

Two juveniles have been arrested in connection to the shooting, which killed one woman and injured 22 other people. In a statement released by the Kansas City police department, Police Chief Stacey Graves shared that she was "grateful for the charges against the two juveniles who hurt innocent people, simultaneously scarring an entire community."

The names and ages of the alleged shooters have not been released.
