Painting is such a quick and easy way to create a drastic makeover, but I hate hate doing it. Not because I usually end up getting more paint on my clothes than the walls, or even having to spread out that giant plastic drop cloth. It's the tape — that annoying blue painter's tape. After practically toppling off a ladder to apply it to the tops of my ceiling, I'm still somehow unable to create perfectly crisp lines.
Luckily for me and all you tape-haters out there, we have other options.
- Frog Tape: Similar to painter's tape, but it bonds with latex paint to prevent bleeding. Almost makes taping worth it.
- Cardboard: Take a thin piece of cardboard and hold it up to the edges.
- Angle Brush: It's amazing the wonders that a good angle brush can do.
- Paint Edgers: Great for regular straight walls, but if your home is anything like mine (i.e., super-old so the walls aren't perfectly straight), they're difficult to use since they rely so heavily on straight edges.
- Freehand: A little bit of practice and all you'll need is a steady hand with a regular paintbrush. Be sure to have a wet rag handy, just in case.
- Artist Brush: Use a small artist brush to cut into the edge.
What do you use when you paint edges?
