Someone, anyone … please explain to me what's going on with the coughing outbreak? Really, though! I feel like everywhere I go lately, someone is hacking up a lung, and it makes me feel like we're back in the frigid mid-winter. Last time I checked, it's actually mid-summer, which means everyone coughing up that aforementioned lung is probably pissed that they're doing so.
Well, what if I were to tell you that there's one thing that could get rid of that nasty cough? Seriously. Something you can snag at your local grocery store that may be JUST as effective as a cough suppressant.
Ready for it?
Honey.
Seriously! According to Mayo Clinic, honey works to soothe coughing! In fact, it has appeared to be just as effective as an ingredient in common cough suppressants, dextromethorphan. The best part? Honey is SERIOUSLY inexpensive. Yes, please.
So what are the best ways to get the recommended dosage (2 teaspoons) of the sweet stuff? Well of course if you're living on the edge, you can take it straight up. Personally, I'm more prone to sweetening up some tea with honey to lessen the painful throat irritation. If tea isn't your thing, opt for warm water with a little lemon instead.
Have you ever used honey to help cure a cough?
