Although it may seem pretty obvious that removing a condom during sex without the partner's consent is NEVER okay, there are still plenty of people out there who need to be educated. So, one Twitter user decided to explain why this act, also known as stealthing, should be considered rape.
Twitter user @iamsashakae has received more than 130,000 likes on her explanation of the consequences of stealthing and why it's sexual assault.
She explained in a now-viral thread that removing the condom without a partner's knowledge "changes the context of the sex they consented to."
The first ramification she mentions is the possibility of contracting a sexually transmitted disease.
Once a condom is removed, the partner could easily contract an STD, whether the person removing the condom is aware that he has one or not.
And, of course, a women in this situation now has the possibility of becoming pregnant.
The thread explains how even alternative options such as Plan B, birth control, or abortion are not always safe for women. Not only can all of these options be costly and have severe side effects for certain people, but they are also extremely stressful.
She then shares how it's often "hard for men to grasp" the fact that they may have violated a woman and they are afraid to come to terms with it.
However, there is no longer an excuse for men, or people in general, to remain ignorant to these kinds of issues, including coercion and deception.
She concludes by adding that poking holes in condoms and lying about it is also NEVER okay.
These issues are important to be aware of and although they may seem like common sense when broken down, we have learned that not everyone is aware of just how dangerous these things can be.
