Who doesn't love a good summer potluck or really any gathering involving plenty of food? What's so awesome about hosting a potluck is that it's so low-key, you won't need to spend a ton of time planning for it. When attending a potluck, it's always a good idea to think of dishes that can either be made in a slow cooker if the event is taking place indoors, or dishes that don't have to be piping hot when served. There are several different approaches you can take when it comes to a summer potluck.
We adore make-ahead dishes that allow us to mingle with guests, rather than having to wrangle food onto little toothpicks or something. In the summer (and the rest of the year, really), we're often so strapped for time, that 15-minute summer meals are the best bet.
If the party will have a lot of kids, finger foods, can be really fun. And if the party is indoors, it's a great opportunity to pull out the slow cooker. A slow cooker can also keep the kitchen cooler on hot days while providing a crowd-pleasing potluck dish.
For potluck picnics, bring on the nostalgia with some classic summer picnic recipes, that can hang out in a picnic basket for at least a few hours without the risk of food poisoning.
