When Jenna Spetz was asked to be the maid of honor at her cousin Blair Hardy's wedding, she knew she needed to do something big to clinch her MOH speech. But no one could have expected just how big she'd go. Spetz ultimately decided to surprise the bride with an unusual gift: a bouquet made entirely from Tyson's chicken nuggets. (And yep — she definitely clinched it!)
Spetz said that it didn't take too much brainstorming to come up with something good to surprise her cousin with.
Speaking with Business Insider, she explained that her cousin has "always LOVED dino nuggets," which is what inspired the whole thing.
"When I was thinking about my speech, I was trying to come up with something I could surprise Blair with," she recalled. "Nuggets immediately came to mind. I wasn't sure at what medium though or how I would even pull something like that off."
The plan really came together once Spetz realized her cousin's new last name would be Tyson -- just like the brand Tyson Foods.
Although her cousin's fiancé, Adam Tyson, isn't affiliated with (or related to) anyone at the food company, Spetz still thought the brand could help her turn her dream into a reality.
"I really didn't expect my inquiry to go any further than an auto-reply from customer service," she told Business Insider. "I went into this thinking, 'They probably get thousands of emails a day and I'm sure this won't go anywhere but it's worth a shot!'"
But as it turned out, the folks at Tyson do read their emails — and before she knew it, someone had responded saying they'd be happy to help her out.
"Needless to say, this is all still so mind-blowing," she shared.
It was actually a Tyson employee who came up with the genius idea of a chicken nugget bouquet.
"Their PR team immediately reached out and wanted to be a part of the surprise," Spetz explained. "Once they got involved, everything seemed to fall into place," she continued, explaining how they connected with a local florist to make it happen.
"The team went above and beyond my expectations to the point of sending a NUGGET BOUQUET," Spetz marveled. "I never even thought of that!!!"
Even more amazing: The company also offered to cater the wedding with dino nuggets "so I could do a nugget toast at the end of my speech," Spetz shared.
Spetz somehow managed to keep the surprise quiet until the big day -- where the dino nugget bouquet was (of course) a huge hit.
The wedding was held at the Park Inn Radisson Hotel in Toledo, Ohio, where it took a bit of skilled planning to keep the prank under wraps.
"I had my wife bring the nugget bouquet in a box to the reception," Spetz explained, "and prior to our introductions, I hid the box behind the stage."
Then came her moment to shine.
"Blair's reaction was priceless! She was grinning from ear to ear and giggling," Spetz recalled of the moment after she handed over the tasty treat.
"Blair of course ate the dino-nuggets from the toast immediately!" she continued. "I actually think it was pretty ironic that the wedding party/guests had 'chicken or beef' as their dinners and Blair paid extra to have nuggets and fries."
In a later Instagram post, Spetz even joked that "I think the bride's more excited for nugs than her new hubby!"
Tyson Foods President and CEO Noel White even caught wind of the surprise, and sent the bride a note along with her nugget bouquet.
"We heard from a little birdie that you're spreading your wings and getting married today, and we couldn't be happier to be part of your celebration," the letter read.
The company then offered the new couple a year's supply of free nuggets, as well as some heartfelt advice.
"Always begin and end each day with kisses and nugs," the letter read. "Remind each other how dino-mite you are together. Double-dipping will only bring you closer. Never go to bed angry (unless he ate the last nugget). Wishing you many years of marital bliss, from one Tyson family to another."
Spetz has said that the couple has yet to receive their year's supply of nuggets, but even so, she's "sure those won't last the full year."
(We can only wonder which lucky guest caught the bouquet!)
