People love a good theme, but if you ask Todd Cameron and his wife, Nicole, pulling it off isn't an easy feat. For these two creative spirits who bonded over a love of nerdom, cosplay, and crafting, it was only fitting to Todd and Nicole that they begin their marital journey in the most epic way possible.
After moving in together, the couple and Todd's eldest daughter, Raven, booked a trip Universal Studios. Todd knew he wanted to pop the question to Nicole during the trip, he just wasn't sure how. After learning from a friend that they'd be there during Back to the Future Day, Todd plotted to ask his future bride for her hand in a quirky way that recreated a scene from the movies.
After a lot of coordinating and a few letdowns, Todd finally had a plan.
"Universal Studios finally came through with an area that is part of their famous backlot tour which displays some of the cars from the BTTF series, including Biff Tannen's Ford," Todd explained to CafeMom. "After much stress, planning, backup planning, and scheming, the plan finally came together perfectly. The funny thing is that the drama and stress of overcoming mishaps actually made the whole affair feel like a Back to the Future movie!"
In front of that car, he read her a parody script and held a mini DeLorean that concealed the ring.
"Nicole was completely surprised, especially since we had JUST moved in together, and even when I was holding the ring box in front of her, she had no clue what was happening since it was disguised as a mini DeLorean. And Great Scott! She said Yes!"
Nicole's love of 1950s aesthetic took it one step further and suggested they theme their wedding around "Enchantment Under the Sea."
And as film buffs know, that's where Loraine and George had their first kiss, sealing the fate of the McFly family.
When it came to their big day, no detail was spared.
"We spent the year meticulously crafting pieces such as a Neptune Statue out of mannequin parts, the band jackets and instruments, and other sea decorations from the movie," explains Todd.
But the prepwork didn't stop there.
"Nicole made sure to find the proper dinnerware, punch bowl, and had a custom pinkish wedding gown made from overseas. As a special gift to me, she also arranged for a DeLorean to come over on the ferry from Vancouver Island. It ended up being a DeLorean signed by Michael J. Fox."
"I decided to send out invitations to all of the stars of the original 'Back to the Future' Movie," Todd says.
"And, to our great delight, RSVPs from Tom Wilson (Biff), Lea Thompson (Lorraine) and James Tolkan (Principal Strickland) arrived weeks later in time for the wedding, with beautiful handwritten and signed notes regretting that they could not make it. We used these wonderful keepsakes to adorn our wedding guestbook table. We put in tons of effort, along with our friends, to turn a local Gym into Hill Valley High School and the wedding went off perfectly, even though time travel can be a risky business."
It was all a truly magical event. I mean, just take a look at that wedding cake.
You can't get any more clutcth than that, right?
Surprise, you can.
Especially if you have a ton of goofy friends who embrace your particular brand of weird
It's no surprise that the highlight of the big day was their first dance as a married couple.
"There we were, surrounded by all of our family and friends in 1955, dancing our first dance as husband and wife to the song 'Earth Angel' at the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance under the gaze of Neptune himself and it was just all so silly, and fun, and full of love and it just struck me that that those three adjectives would forever be the themes of our life together."
He was right. Months later after finding out that Nicole was pregnant, they seized an opportunity to riff off their silly romantic theme once more.
"When Nicole got pregnant, we soon after discovered that Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson and Tom Wilson were going to be just one province away at the Calgary Fan Expo right at the 3 month mark of our pregnancy," Todd shares. "We decided to travel there with my daughter, our wedding outfits, and baby announcement props and signs. We made it to the Expo and Mr. Lloyd, Miss Thompson and Mr. Wilson were all too happy to oblige us. They held up our signs and props and gave us hugs and congratulations! It was a very surreal and amazing way to tie up our Back to the Future Relationship Trilogy."

Now that's the power of love, ya'll.
