Can you imagine a better way to wake up than rolling out of bed, grabbing a cup of coffee, and opening the door to step directly onto the beach? Hearing the waves crashing against the sand is so relaxing, and spending the day soaking up the sunshine with your family is unbeatable. The worst part about a beach day? Having to leave! But what if you didn’t have to leave the sun and sand at the end of the day? With an RV, you can camp directly at the shore without giving up the comforts of home.
When you park your RV at the beach, there are a few things to keep in mind, like sand, water, wind, and parking. Here are some of our best tips for beach camping:
1. Parking

First things first, make sure to find a great place to park. Whether you’re staying at an RV park, a campground, or finding a remote location on your own, you want to make sure you’re somewhere safe and have the RV hookups you need.
2. Sand

Anyone who has ever been to the beach knows that sand sticks to everything and gets everywhere. To avoid getting sand in your RV, make sure to keep your indoor and outdoor items separated; hang a clothesline outside for swimsuits and beach towels; store bath towels in the RV and beach towels outside; keep beach toys outside and store them in bags for transport; separate beach chairs and camping chairs so you don’t get sandy around the campfire; and keep all shoes out of the RV — rinse feet with a hose or tub of water before going inside.
3. Sun

When you’re at the beach, you’ll undoubtedly spend a lot of time in the sun. Consider investing in a pop-up shade for your RV (or rent an RV with an awning) so you can sit outside without being in direct sunlight. Another great way to keep yourself shaded is with beach umbrellas, so bring one (or a few!) to protect yourself while you’re lounging in the sand. Of course, make sure you also bring sunscreen, breathable clothing, and hats for additional sun protection. Finally, don’t forget to stay hydrated! Keep drinks cool in your RV’s fridge or a cooler.
4. Wind

Wind can pick up quickly at the beach, so you’ll want to make sure you secure your belongings. If your RV has an awning that you’ve been extending for shade, make sure you put it away if you’re leaving the area. Make sure nothing can blow away: clip tablecloths to tables, stake or weight outdoor carpets, and clip laundry to the clothesline. If you notice it’s getting windy, move everything inside.
5. Water

Spending time in the water is a huge part of going to the beach. If you’re close to the water’s edge, make sure to pay close attention to the tides and park far enough away. Keep the RV dry by thoroughly toweling off before going inside — and hang wet clothes on the line outside.
