I tried waxing with 2 different drugstore kits — here’s the winner

Hairy genes are great, when it comes to a full head of hair and thick eyebrows.

Arms? Arms are a completely different story. I've held out waxing my dark haired arms for 25 years, but now I'm ready to lose my arm-waxing virginity. After all, summer is right around the corner…

I decided to make an experiment out of it. I used Sally Hansen strips on one arm and Nad's strips on the other. Check out my results below!

Here's my before shot, so you know this review is for really real.

First up: Nad's. The strips in this kit have a thick layer of green goo, which is made of beeswax. You can use these on your legs, underarms, and bikini area. There are 24 strips in the $8.99 box.

The instructions didn't tell me to, but I decided to trim my hair to make the removal less painful. I was just being hopeful.

As per the instructions, I took one strip and rubbed it between my hands to heat up the wax.

I tried to be brave as I applied the strip over the growth, but I was pretty nervous.

And of course: IT WAS PAINFUL. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd put it at a 4. It's less painful than waxing your lip, but it definitely stings.

I immediately went in with the cooling wipes provided in the kit. They don't feel oily, but they release the perfect amount of oil when rubbed on skin.

Next up: Sally Hansen's kit. The ingredients in this wax are less... recognizable. I'm pretty sure this isn't natural. The finishing oil (in the blue bottle) contains sesame oil. There are 34 strips to a $7.99 box.

Like Nad's, Sally Hansen strips have to be rubbed to heat up the wax. But whereas Nad's strips are woven cloth, Sally strips are plastic.

After another quick trim, I applied the strip and yanked it off against the direction of my hair growth. The pain was about the same.

Sally's oil is a dry oil so it goes on clean. No fuss, no muss, no mess.

And here's my after shot: Nad's is on the left arm (the one with bracelets) and Sally is on my right arm. They both got the job done right!

Final thoughts...

I like that the Nad's strips had more wax on them, but you can only use them once. With Sally Hansen I was able to use the strips twice to go back in for any straggler hairs.

The post-wax oils are crucial, especially for sensitive skin like mine. Nad's definitely slayed the game with its calming oil wipes.

If I could mix the thickness of the Nad's strips with the quality of the wax from Sally Hansen — and the Nad's oil wipes — I'd have the best waxing kit ever.
