The launch of Jaclyn Hill's second Morphe palette has seemingly been going extremely well. YouTubers and at-home makeup lovers are swooning over the vibrant colors and smooth formulas. However, with Hill's moves being watched under a microscope, it wasn't long before social media discovered something wrong: a formula change from her first palette with the brand, which was vegan and cruelty-free. It seems that the second collaboration isn't either of those things, and now Morphe is apologizing to fans.
Check out the brewing drama ahead.
When Jaclyn Hill announced her second Morphe palette, she insisted that it would be the same formula as the last.
And that means that it would be 100% vegan and cruelty free. As the popularity of the palette began to rise, makeup lovers did a deep dive into the product's ingredients and discovered that Morphe and Hill's claims were not true. As expected, the reception to the discovery didn't go over well.
Those who purchased the palette took to social media and threatened to sue the brand and the influencer for false advertising.
"If you bought a Morphe x Jaclyn Hill 'vol 1' palette in 2018 or by December 15, 2019 & the box lists carmine you could sue Morphe for false advertising as they promoted it as vegan all the way into December 2019," someone tweeted. "At the very least contact @TruthinAd, @AGBecerra, or the @FTC."
So when Morphe caught wind, it took to Twitter to address the controversy.
"We have seen several concerns about our original #MorphexJaclynHill palette formula modifications and ingredient changes and want to set the record straight. @Jaclynhill," the brand said. In the statement, they insisted that Hill wasn't made aware of the formula change, incorporating carmine, a dye that comes from bugs, to improve color payoff. They apologized to customers for the possibly misleading information.
But not everyone is buying it.
And they are insisting that if that is the case, Hill has a lawsuit on her hands. "I’m sorry but something isn’t adding up here…," someone tweeted. "Jaclyn signed (what I would assume) are legal papers to own a specific formula and Morphe just changes that once loved formula without telling her??? that smells like Jaclyn needs to be calling her lawyer to me."
Some say this isn't the first time Morphe has put Hill in a compromising position.
If I was @Jaclynhill I would be pissed, it seems like morphe f*cks her over a lot…," someone wrote. "Plus didn’t she say she SIGNED PAPERS to own that formula?! How can a brand change it on her? Also why are they avoiding talking about the Carmine?"
Unfortunately, the resounding consensus seems to be that Hill knew all along.
"Morphe changed the packaging at least two times since the original launch but kept the original (Beautydom) formula until December 2019/January 2020," Zadi Doll wrote. "This can be proven via archived pages of the site. Jaclyn flat out stated this was the SAME formula as her original when it wasn’t & all three products – Vol 1, Vaults, & Vol 2 – are all this new formula. So Jaclyn doesn’t know how to read? Morphe violates their contract with her by doing this? Doubt."
Why is it that Hill just can't seem to catch a break? We hope this gets resolved ASAP.
