Pop princess Katy Perry has translated her signature look into a shoe collection.
With prices starting in the $50-range and going up to almost $300, there's something for everyone — including Hillary Clinton, who has her own namesake shoe.
The designs are a total reflection of Perry's colorful, whimsical style, with a nod to designers like Charlotte Olympia and Sophia Webster. I ordered six pairs — from slip-ons to sky-high platforms — and spent $944 to give the Katy Perry Collection a whirl.
No boring shoe boxes here!
I was definitely feeling the geometric designs that kept the packaging from looking #basic.
Inside was a card with a note from the songstress herself.
OK, fine, everyone gets the note, but it still made the shoes feel extra special.
If you look closely, the glittery tissue paper has "Katy Perry" all over it.
I felt like I was opening a birthday gift.
The Maggie Shoe's print mimicked snakeskin, so it definitely felt like L-U-X-U-R-Y.
These shoes are talllll but manageable ($149, Katy Perry Collections).
Thanks to a thick strap and a stacked heel, the Maggie's FIVE-INCH heel isn't too much of a struggle to walk in.
They're sturdy, but not so much that they weigh you down — they're actually quite lightweight.
Would I drop $149 on these? Probably not.
Would I buy them on sale, for say, 30% off? Probably so.
I loved the metal star details on the Stella shoes.
The metallic finish balances out the stars and adds the perfect amount of more-is-more shimmer ($139, Katy Perry Collection).
These are 3.5 inches tall, but the heel is slim. I thought they would feel like stilts, but again, pretty sturdy.
P.S. They're currently on sale for $98, run!
AND THE BACK HAS ZIPPERS. YESSSSS.
There's nothing I hate more than spending 20 minutes fastening my shoes. Nobody has time for that.
Meanwhile, the Margot was comfortable, but not matronly.
Criss-cross straps are an ongoing theme throughout this collection ($100, Katy Perry Collection).
The Rubik's cube design wraps around the entire heel.
I appreciate this attention to detail!
Suede ankle straps kept my foot from sliding around in the shoe. Thanks, Katy.
With shorter heels like these, there's not usually a lot of bend in the sole. However, these were bendable and super easy to walk in.
I was nervous about whether the Perry shoe would look dated. I also worried it would cause my foot to slip around when I walked.
But they hugged my foot like a glove and really popped against my skin tone. ($149, Katy Perry Collections).
I was channelling my inner '70s disco queen à la Diana Ross.
I was so glad to see a variety of sneaker options in the line. These Peace slip-ons are cute, but a little snug.
The toe design was a little awkward, too — like when you miss a high-five with your best friend ($99, Katy Perry Collections).
Also, I wish it was available in a range of skin tones.
BECAUSE THAT'S NOT MY SKIN TONE.
Next up, THE UNICORN HEELS OF YOUR DREAMS.
Meet the Sia shoe, an online exclusive that's only available on the Katy Perry Collections website. ($159, Katy Perry Collections).
The thick heel made for easy walking and the unicorn horns are actually pretty subtle.
Without a strap, I thought my foot would slip out, but the shoes gripped my feet and everything was copacetic.
Personally, though, I'd be afraid to spend $159 on these and get them stained the instant I set foot on the NYC streets.
Now for my personal favorite: The Thelma. Quirky and comfortable? I'm sold.
I saved the best for last ($149, Katy Perry Collections).
The front of the shoe is supposed to resemble a windshield, while the silver circles look like tires.
I was in LOVE with these Lucite heels. They made the shoe even more unique and also felt sturdy.
The "KTYPRY" tag resembled a license plate.
FINAL THOUGHTS: Original, quirky, and fun? All of the above. Worth the price? Debatable.
Look, I'm a shoe girl. However, I like to shop smart. The shoes were definitely well made, lightweight, AND all but the slip-ons fit well in my usual 9.5 size. I would buy everything (minus the metallic sneakers) because they're unique and cute and I like having shoes that stand out.
However, I'm not sure if the name alone justifies the majority of the shoes being over the $100 mark. But, hey, if you want to have a mini-splurge, then by all means, go for it!
