MIL ‘Surprises’ Newlyweds by Planning To Crash Their Honeymoon at Disney World

If your wedding is supposed to be the sweetest day of your life, your honeymoon should be the cherry on top. Right? Well, that would be the case for one bride — if her mother-in-law wasn’t dead set on going on their honeymoon with them. "They’re joining us on our Disney trip!" the newlywed wrote.

The woman and her husband got married last year.

Because of the ongoing current global crisis, they kept things small with the plan to have a bigger reception when things started to open up. “But almost all of our guests would be coming from out of state, including Dear Husband’s entire family, so we decided to just cancel the celebration,” the original poster explained in a post on the r/JUSTNOMIL subreddit.

With no big wedding to look forward to, the OP and her husband decided to go big on their honeymoon instead — Disney World.

Not only does the OP love Disney, but Disney is one of the few places that she feels will safely accommodate her food allergies “meaning I won’t have to cook the whole time!” she explained.

Hoping they’ll be vaccinated soon, the couple planned to go on their honeymoon in summer 2021.

“My husband was excited that we finally had a plan, so he mentioned it to his dad while they were talking on the phone yesterday,” they explained.

It was NBD — or so they thought.

Recently, the OP's MIL called and put her father-in-law on the speakerphone with them, too.

Surprise! They booked a trip to Disney with exact same dates as the OP and her husband. They already booked everything and were so excited that they couldn’t even wait to surprise them by showing up unannounced.

“[She] couldn’t hold it in anymore,” the OP wrote. “Plus, she wanted me to make us all matching shirts.”

Yay?

The OP was bummed — "This was supposed to be our honeymoon."

Thinking quickly, the OP’s husband called Disney and switched their dates. He made the OP promise not to tell anyone the new plan — just in case.

“I’ve had some creeping doubts about Dear Husband’s willingness to stand up to his mom in the past, but I am SO beyond happy with how he responded,” the OP added. “He’s not planning on telling his parents we switched the dates we’re going. His comment was, ‘They’re getting what they deserve.’”

People in the comments section were stunned.

"My god," one person wrote. "There’s just no words for them. They can’t let go of their baby boy. I really feel sorry for you. Every mile stone they’re going to insert themselves into your relationship."

"She wants to wear matching shirts LMAO I’d suggest 'we are in our honeymoon' for the newlyweds and 'we are the parents crashing our son’s and daughter in law honeymoon' for them," someone else joked.

"Wow – your DH is a hero!" a third commenter exclaimed. "Good for both of you protecting yourselves from this kind of intrusiveness. And we definitely need an update when this all goes down!"

There is a lot to be said about people who can't take the hint when they're not welcome, but we think one commenter put this whole thing into words succinctly: "HOW CREEPY CAN YOU GET?" the person wrote.
