The Craziest TikTok Trends of the Year So Far

Teens, parents or bored celebrities, like it or not, TikTok has become the answer to stay-at-home boredom. In a time of stay-at-homeness, TikTok seems to be the cure for what ails the world right now. That can be anything from how to order everyone's favorite new Starbucks drink to startling breastfeeding babies.

When people are stuck indoors for a long time, something is needed to break the tension and help them get outside of their situation. It's also a great way to connect with our kids and get inside those heads of theirs. So for anyone feeling behind on all the TikTok trends so far, we've got a cheat sheet of the craziest trends in 2020.

Watch Like Nobody's Dancing

In this trend, one partner dances their heart out to the latest TikTok trend while recording their partner’s reaction. The reactions caught on video are usually so funny.

Purse Challenge

The purse challenge is HILARIOUS. It's basically two people in a car, when a person (usually the woman) reaches back to grab a purse from the back seat. When they turn back around — purse in hand — they "unintentionally" hit the passenger in the head with the purse. Spoiler alert: Women think it’s funny while the men involved are clearly annoyed.

Birthday Cake Challenge

A cruel twist has couples on TikTok giving their sweetie’s sweets. But all is not what it seems. Instead, partners are unsuspectingly biting into water balloons, raw eggs, and onions. It’s disgusting but we can't stop watching.

Koala Challenge

The Koala Challenge is a human climbing challenge. Basically, one small human (the koala) climbs a taller human (the tree) and hilarity ensues. Spoiler: climbing a human is actually really hard.

Fake Boyfriend Facetime

Want to see a boyfriend lose his mind on video? TikTokers used an audio filter to fake a Facetime call with a lover just to get their boyfriends' reaction — and often, it's not pretty.

Afternoon Delight

Because there's nothing as funny as tempting one's partner away from their Call of Duty game or Zoom meeting by showing up au natural ready to party. The reactions are priceless.

Ice Cube Challenge

There was one point this year, when TikTok rumors were that ice cubes were the cure to everything — depression, anxiety, and even genital warts. Spoiler alert: It does none of these things so, ladies, don’t stick ice cubes up there hoping for miracles because the only thing it causes is cold nether regions.

Stand Up Challenge

If the Koala challenge seemed difficult, this is next level. Participants turn on the music, and with each movement, the stronger participant makes the other one match the pattern by hopping into another upright position until the couple are standing like a completely vertical totem pole.

Flash Mob Moms

Moms all over TikTok started flashing their food source to their breastfed babies to see what the reaction would be. It really all just depended on what time of the day it was and how hungry they were. Either way, it was interesting to watch — and adorable.

At-Home Dental Work

Some genius on TikTok thought filing their fangs down at home with a nail file was a good idea. It’s not. For the record, at-home filing of teeth will cause pain, nerve damage, and sensitivity.

An Apple a Day

Martinelli’s apple juice became TikTok famous for sounding like an actual apple crunching when people bit into the plastic bottle. Why eat an apple when there’s less calories in plastic, right?

Backwards Boo

In this challenge, couples were scaring their better half by standing in front of the fridge with a hoodie on backwards. They call out for assistance to help at the fridge and when the partner gets frustrated and pulls the hoodie down, it reveals a face instead of the back of the head like they're expecting. The reactions are just as funny as imagined.

Influencer Challenge

In this hilarious challenge, girlfriends and wives are pretending to be influencers on TikTok — giving full tutorials on how to do everything from workout routines to beauty routines — all while secretly recording their partners' reaction.

Pouring Water on Babies

When things got really boring, parents decided that the best thing to do for entertainment and laughs was to pour water on their unsuspecting children. While it may have made TikTok roar with laughter, it was a bit cruel for the baby.

Bugs Be Gone

Everyone on TikTok started soaking their strawberries in salt water to reveal what really lived on our berries. Let’s just say there are some things that can’t be unseen. Do not recommend.
