The Home Edit Gals Reveal Their Favorite Items for Back-to-School Organization

If you haven't caught on to The Home Edit craze yet, you are sorely missing out. Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin are the founders and masterminds behind the brand, the hit Netflix show, and incredible home organization products.

They are perhaps the most known for their ROYGBIV system, in which they organized closets, pantries, bookcases, and more in a color-coding scheme that matches the colors of the rainbow. They have inspired thousands of people to get more organized. We had the pleasure of asking Clea and Joanna a few questions about back-to-school organization and their favorite products to help families calm the chaos.

Take a look here.

What would you tell a mom who's struggling to keep it together and keep everyone on track this back-to-school season?

"Take a deep breath! You’re not alone here! You just need to get some systems in place. They don’t need to be complicated, but they do need to flow with your routine and be intuitive for everyone in your household. For instance, if your issue is getting out the door in time, create a grab-and-go breakfast station in the pantry. GoGo squeeZ® pouches are our go-to because they don’t require utensils or refrigeration. A system like this takes less than 10 minutes to create but saves a lot of time in the long run!"

You're both pros at organizing spaces but how do you organize schedules, especially for your family?

"Organizing spaces and organizing schedules actually go hand in hand. When we create a system that flows with our schedule, it's more intuitive and thus easier for everyone to use. When the schedules change, so do the systems. That's where our success lies. Not being too wrapped up in how the system should be and addressing the pain points as they come."

Any tried and true tips to make heading back to school less stressful?

"We always say you can’t fight the tide. If you clearly see a pattern developing, put a system in place to counteract the pattern. If you see consistently that kids walk in the house and put their shoes and their bag down in the same spot, you’re probably not going to get rid of that habit, but what you do is place a basket right there, and they put it in the basket."
