After an intense year of spotting fake product after fake product, we're all acutely aware of what places we should avoid buying makeup at the risk of getting a dangerous counterfeit. That's why it's always safest to buy your products in-store at your local beauty retailer or department store, right?
On second thought, maybe not.
A Redditor found this VERY obviously fake Urban Decay makeup brush set at a T.J. Maxx.
User banana_del_rey (lol) instantly knew this Naked 3 brush set was fake because Urban Decay... doesn't even make it.
The worst part? T.J. Maxx was selling this not-even-trying counterfeit for 35 WHOLE DOLLARS.
Yes, you're reading that correctly. "Beauty with an brush."
So how did an illegal brush set make its way into a popular, national department store? An alleged T.J. Maxx employee and other retail workers chimed in to explain.
"As an employee, let me assure everybody that TJ Maxx does not sell counterfeit products," one user wrote. "If you do find any, like in this instance, it's because it was a bad return. In addition to the tampered tag, the first number on the tag identifies it as belonging to the purse department, so the employee who returned it either is too new to be familiar with the departments or simply wasn't paying attention."
Basically, a scammer tried to "return" this fake brush set by placing a real T.J. Maxx tag — from a purse — on it. And it worked.
But none of this would have happened if the employee in question knew anything about makeup.
What is this, amateur hour?
