10-Year-Old Girl Watched in Horror As Father Shot Mom Twice in Broad Daylight at a Michigan Car Dealership

I’m hyper aware of how my husband and I act in front of our son. Even though we both ultimately grew up in loving homes, we witnessed our fair share of parental spats, which undoubtedly left an impression on both of us. We work extremely hard to make sure we do not do the same with our boy. Of course we’ve bickered in front of him, but we’ve absolutely never name-called, belittled, or screamed at each other. And we don’t do that to keep the peace; we do it so he can see how to treat his future partner and how he should be treated by one.

Unfortunately, there are so many kids out there who have to witness so much worse than a tense argument. In 2023, Gregory Keyier-Deniro Davis, now 46, trapped and killed Annie Salem Namou Somo, 40, in front of their then 10-year-old daughter.

Somo was bringing her daughter to work that day when Davis used his vehicle to pin hers in, keeping her from escaping.

According to Law & Crime, Davis followed Somo to work at the Legend Motors car dealership on Eight Mile Road in Ferndale, Michigan. Though Somo was able to leave the car, Davis shot her with a 12-gauge semiautomatic shotgun. Once she was down, he approached her and shot again at close range, all while their little girl watched in abject horror.

Davis also reportedly stole the gun he used to kill the mother of his child.

He surrendered himself to the police that same day. “This is a horrific and tragic incident,” Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald shared in a statement at the time. “Every month, an average of 70 women are shot and killed by an intimate partner in this country. This event occurred in a place of business where other employees were just a few feet away. My office has charged this individual with first-degree murder, the most serious charge under Michigan law, and we will vigorously prosecute this perpetrator for his alleged actions.”

In May 2026, Davis was officially sentenced to life without parole.

A jury found Davis guilty on all eight counts he was charged with, which included premeditated murder in the first degree, assault with intent to murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and felonious assault, and four counts of felony firearm as a second offense, Law & Crime reported.

When speaking with New Media Detroit, a family member asked that it share that Somo was “an incredible woman and mother whose loss continues to devastate those who loved her.”

“I thank the jury for delivering justice for Annie Namou and her loved ones,” McDonald shared in a statement at Davis’ conviction in April. “Children and women, like Annie, are too often endangered by intimate partners, and it is unacceptable. We will never forget her and never stop fighting for victims of intimate partner violence.”
