A family is thankful that a shocking car crash that destroyed part of their home didn’t also lead to their son losing a crucial part of his body. As the family were in the driveway at their Hawaii home, a neighbor accidentally drove their car through a wall of the family’s house. The out-of-control car pushed the 7-year-old boy through the wall of the home.
The boy’s dad acted quickly, and got his son to the hospital to save his nearly completely severed foot. Now, the family is hoping to move on and help their son heal the best they can.

It was a devastating accident.
“At that time, a neighbor from across the street pulled into our driveway to pick up our other neighbor who we have a shared driveway with,” Alisha Hilton, mom to 7-year-old Taurean Reign Denoto, told ABC affiliate KITV. “And before our neighbor even got into the vehicle all the way, the guy stepped on the gas and hit Taurean and drove through the front of our house.”
Taurean’s father told KITV that the boy was “attached to the front bumper of his car. So he went face first through a wall.”

Their son almost lost his foot.
The crash almost completely amputated Taurean’s foot. “Everything was severed except for one artery. Everything else was severed. I had to put his foot in my pocket to carry him outside,” Ralph Hilton explained.
But Alisha Hilton, who is a surgical technologist, knew what to do to ensure that her son survived. “She was just like hey we need tourniquets. I listened to her, we got him tourniquet off and he lived,” Ralph Hilton said.
Taurean has a long road to recovery.
The boy was life-flighted to Queens Medical Center on O’ahu, where surgeons successfully reattached his foot. He has undergone multiple surgeries since. “He’s going to have extensive deformities for the rest of his life from this,” his mother said.
Taurean also suffered severed arteries and nerves in his wrist, as well as a major concussion. They still don’t know if he’ll ever be able to walk again.
“We’re trying to keep his spirits up and keep him as active as we can so he doesn’t lose muscle function and mobility in the rest of his body,” his mother said.
The man who drove into the house was arrested.
Police arrested the neighbor who drove into the house and charged him with negligent injury. According to the family, the 71-year-old man shouldn’t have been driving after recent hip surgery.
“I’m pretty sure your foot don’t work that well when you have a hip replacement. I’m thinking his foot fell off the brake and onto the gas pedal and he couldn’t lift it off, and once he started bouncing through our house when he hit the house, he definitely can’t lift his foot off the gas pedal,” Ralph Hilton told KITV.
A GoFundMe has been set up for the family.
A fellow neighbor set up a fundraiser to help the family with “any medical, travel, and additional expenses they are currently experiencing.”
The family is currently focused on supporting their son and his healing. “He’s determined. He’s an active boy. He plays sports and he’s not gonna let this stop him,” Alisha Hilton said.
