
A fatal accident serves as an important reminder to always be aware of your surroundings. A 2-year-old child was hit by a car backing out of a driveway. While the details have yet to be released, it’s easy to assume the whole thing was an accident. So far, police aren’t suggesting foul play.
Hopefully, more information about what led to the tragedy will emerge as the police continue to investigate.
Multiple local outlets have reported on the incident. Officers from the Bolingbrook Police Department in Illinois responded to a report of a 2-year-old child being hit by a car, CBS News reported. Just before 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2025, a car was backing out of a driveway and struck the child.
WJOL reported that officers on the scene began giving the child emergency medical assistance. Paramedics from the Bolingbrook Fire Department then took over. The child, a girl, was taken to a local hospital. She was listed in critical condition upon arrival.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office announced the girl died from her injuries on Tuesday, April 29, ABC 7 Chicago reported. Authorities later identified her as Yunaleska Nival.
“This is a tragic incident for everyone involved,” Bolingbrook Chief of Police Mike Rompa said, WGN-TV reported. To date, police have not given any additional information about the case. The Bolingbrook Police Department’s Traffic Unit is conducting the investigation.
Data from the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration shows that in 2021 and 2022, there were six fatalities involving children under 14 and driveways. Additionally, 76% of child pedestrian deaths happen in more urban areas. This includes neighborhoods. According to the statistics, many of these fatalities happen during the day. Of the deaths reported, 54% happened during daylight, like the Bolingbrook incident. Only 40% of the deaths happened after it was dark.
