Teen Boy Suspected of Killing 5 Family Members in Violent Shooting, Including 3 Other Children

Five people allegedly died in a violent shooting in Fall City, Washington, at the hands of a teenage killer. The shooting occurred just before 5 a.m. October 21 in the 7700 block of Lake Alice Road Southeast. It appears the shooting was an act of domestic violence that ended the lives of two adults and three juveniles. Police took a teenage boy suspected of killing five people and shooting a sixth person into custody.

King County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Mike Mellis addressed the media in a news conference, confirming the deaths of five people at the residence and calling the home “a hugely significant crime scene.” Detectives are investigating the shooting as a domestic violence event.

Police reportedly received several calls about a potential shooting.

Mellis said multiple callers contacted police about a possible shooting in the early morning of October 21. A neighbor with medical training reportedly helped a teenage girl before the police arrived. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center and was reportedly in satisfactory condition and expected to survive.

Police took the suspected teenage killer into custody immediately.

As Mellis explained during the media conference, “When deputies got here they discovered sort of a chaotic scene, but what they did when they entered the property is they immediately took one young male, teenage male into custody. What they found was a mix of injured and deceased persons.” He added the home was a “traumatic scene.”

Mellis would not confirm the identities of the victims.

He did not say whether the shooter and victims are related. KOMO reported that multiple neighbors and other officials confirmed a family of seven lived in the home, including two adults and five children. It appears just two survived, the shooter and the injured teenage girl.

“It’s going to be a very significant, long investigation at this house,” Mellis said.

The family apparently lived in a quiet neighborhood.

Falls City rarely experiences this type of violent crime and is generally a safe place to live, Mellis said, per KOMO. “This is truly one of those neighborhoods you come to escape the hustle bustle problems of a larger city, it’s supposed to be a quiet place to be, but as you can see, the worst things can happen in any location,” he said.

The family reportedly homeschooled the children.

Cameron Doerrer, who lives in the area, told KOMO they were a kind family.

“The younger kids especially, the sweetest children, so polite, homeschooled and it’s just unfathomable,” Doerrer said. “The parents probably thought they were doing the right thing by homeschooling their children, protecting them from these sort of bad things that happen to the world and here it happens right from within, I don’t even know what to think.”

Although the children were not enrolled in schools in the Snoqualmie Valley School District, Superintendent Dan Schlotfeldt shared a message with parents obtained by KOMO.

The message said, “We currently understand that the family involved did not attend our schools, however, we recognize that events like this can affect all of us, including our students.” Counselors are available to students needing support.

The suspected teenage killer was due in juvenile court on October 22 and could face murder charges.
