Gun-Toting Grandma Arrested for Shooting at Kids Who Bullied Her Grandson

Sometimes, when you see an injustice, you may feel like you have to take matters into your own hands. At least, that’s what one grandma in Tennessee was thinking when she took on a group of teenage bullies. They had been picking on her grandson, and the woman had enough.

But instead of showing up and merely talking to the children, the grandma got aggressive. She showed up at the local community center, gun in hand, to make her point. Naturally, she was arrested. Now, her family hopes her actions taught a lesson.

Grandma Joyce Brown, 72, showed up at the Mitchell Community Center in Memphis, Tennessee, on January 15, 2025, according to court documents obtained by Fox 13. Brown’s grandson got into a fight with another teenager, and when the fight escalated, she pulled out the gun.

The affidavit stated that Brown was seen on security cameras at the community center, which is attached to Mitchell High School. In the video, kids can be seen running away as Brown fires the shot into the ground.

Police took the grandma into custody. Later, she did admit that she fired the shot after a child threatened to flip her car, the documents explain.

Brown was charged with three counts of reckless endangerment, child abuse or neglect and endangerment, unlawful possession of a weapon in a public place, and carrying a weapon on school property, according to the records.

FOX13 reached out and spoke with Brown’s son Marcus Clark, about the incident. Clark expressed his outrage at his mother’s arrest, saying she was only trying to do the right thing. The grandma was merely trying to protect her grandson from bullies.

“Now when you tell the neighbor the child did something,” Clark said. “You want to argue about what your child didn’t do? That’s the problem. When are we going to be men and women? Start being parents instead of friends.”
