Groom Kills His Bride, Mother-In-Law & Himself Hours After Wedding Ceremony

A day meant for the celebration of love turned into one of mourning after a groom killed his new wife, his mother-in-law, her younger sister, and a wedding guest. Afterward, he turned the gun on himself, ending his own life as well.

Another guest was injured in the shooting. The tragic murder-suicide took place in northeast Thailand after the couple and their guests had participated in a traditional wedding ceremony and feast just hours before.

Five people were killed in the shooting.

The shooting, which resulted in the deaths of five people and the injury of one, was carried out by 29-year-old groom Chaturong Suksuk. Suksuk was a disabled former ranger and para-athlete the Bangkok Post reported.

His bride, Kanchana Pachunthuek, was 44. The shooting took place at 11:25 p.m. at a house where the wedding party was being held.

Guests noticed Suksuk did not look happy during the festivities.

Before tying the knot, the couple lived together for three years. During the party, guests noticed that Suksuk did not look happy. Later in the evening, he abruptly left the gathering and went to his car. He returned with a pistol and went on a rampage.

The bride’s mother, Kingthong Klajoho, was 62, her sister, Kornnipa Manato, was 38, and the guest, Thong Nonkhunthod, was 50. The guest who was injured is 28-year-old Bamrung Chatherat. Suksuk died instantly after turning the gun on himself.

Suksuk became a para-athlete after losing his leg.

Suksuk lost his right leg when it was severed in a train accident. His injuries occurred while he was on duty with Thailand's paramilitary light infantry force, according to the Bangkok Post. The group patrols Thailand’s borders.

Afterward, Suksuk became a disabled athlete and participated in the 11th Asean Para Games in Indonesia in 2022. He won a silver medal in swimming. He was set to compete in the World Abilitysport Games in December.

Witnesses say the couple had an argument before the shooting.

Witnesses informed police that Suksuk “was quite intoxicated at the time,” the BBC reported. While police are still investigating to determine a motive, guests reported a fight between the couple on the day of the wedding.

“They had an argument on private matters and Chaturong walked to his car and picked up a gun before shooting,” Matichon Wongbaokul, a police officer from northeastern Nakhon Ratchasima province, said, according to CBS News.

Police are still looking for a motive.

Other theories suggest Suksuk felt insecure about the 15-year age gap between himself and his bride, the BBC reported. Police say there is still speculation. They have collected evidence and expect the case to be closed soon. Police say Suksuk purchased the gun and his ammunition legally last year.
