Georgia Dad Branded a ‘Hero’ After Saving Toddler Twins From House Fire That Left Him Severely Burned

A Georgia family is holding their dad up as a hero after he survived a house fire that left him severely burned. The father knew that he was the only one who could save his children and his home during the fire, and didn’t allow anything to stop him from protecting his family.

Now, his wife is speaking out about how her husband saved the day. She is calling him a “hero” and attributing the dad’s love as the thing that kept him and their children alive when things could have been so much worse.

Caliph Cason, a dad living in Albany, Georgia, had just put his 3-year-old twins down for a nap after feeding them lunch. He dozed off and woke up to flames inside his home, his wife, Danielle Cason, told news outlet WALB.

Caliph was burned on over 35% of his body after rescuing his children, his wife said.

It was horrific.

Danielle said that her husband was airlifted from their home in Albany to a burn center in Augusta, Georgia. He is undergoing extensive surgeries and skin grafting procedures. “His skin was just falling off of his body,” she said.

Things could have been even worse.

Caliph has a long road ahead, but his wife is thanking God because she knows it could have been worse.

“The scene afterwards was so horrific,” Danielle said. “Like the blood and the skin from my kitchen to my twins’ door literally told the story of the suffering that he went through. He’s a dad before anything else and he showed that. He’s definitely a hero in our books.”

She is grateful to her husband for his sacrifice.

“I’ve never seen that type of love that a person can exude. The adrenaline that he operated on is nothing short of a father’s love,” Danielle said.

Danielle set up a GoFundMe for help with the family’s medical bills, detailing more of what the dad went through to save his family. “My husband walked from our kitchen all the way to the back of our home, engulfed in flames, leaving behind a trail of blood and skin to get our kids out of the home,” she wrote. “Not only did he save the lives of our children, but he also saved our home.”

The family has a tough road ahead.

In the GoFundMe, Danielle explained that her husband is an insulin-dependent Type 1 diabetic. She shared that the dad has undergone a skin grafting procedure and has been able to stand up and get out of bed. But she knows that this is only possible due to the love and support of their community.

“We have no immediate family here in Georgia so to see the community come out on behalf of us? Everyone has pulled together as a team. It is loved it is appreciated and it definitely does not go unnoticed,” she told WALB.
