What to Know
Influencer Abbie Herbert is taking a minute to thank her TikTok followers for pointing out a symptom of a pregnancy complication that could have threatened her and her then-unborn son’s life.
New and expectant moms are used to receiving plenty of unsolicited advice when it comes to themselves and their babies, but this time, the advice was right on the money. Who knows what could have happened if Abbie didn’t take her symptoms seriously?
It all started when she pointed out her palms were itchy in a TikTok video.
@abbieherbert I think this baby is coming soon…. What do you think???

The situation first began to unravel earlier this month, when Abbie shared a vlog of her day on TikTok. Along with voicing her more typical third trimester complaints, she also mentioned that she noticed she had a rash on her hands — something many of her followers immediately flagged in her comments.
The following day, she shared another update: Her blood test results had come back, and revealed that she needed to give birth very early that morning, so she was off to the hospital.
This led to a diagnosis of cholestasis.
@abbieherbert Thank you to every single person that told me to get checked 🤍🥹 I love you all so much and I’m so grateful to have this platform + followers like YOU 🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵

Now that Abbie has had some time to recover at home with her new baby, Rocky Blue, she’s back with another TikTok video, thanking her fans for their life-saving advice.
“I started seeing comments of people saying if my hands are itchy and my feet are itchy, I needed to let my doctor know immediately,” she said. At first, she didn’t pay the comments much mind, but when she noticed a rash developing on both of her palms, she knew she needed to see her doctor.
Blood test results showed she had “extremely high” levels, and she quickly found out that she had cholestasis, a condition that can occur during late pregnancy due to reduced or stopped bile flow from the liver, according to Mayo Clinic.
She gave birth to her baby early at 37 weeks.
This led to Abbie heading to the hospital to welcome her baby as soon as her blood test results came back, about 10 days earlier than she and her husband expected they’d meet their newest little one.
She added that she “would never got checked” if not for her followers telling her to, later adding, “I don’t even want to think what would’ve happened if I didn’t go get blood work.”
It’s a relief to see that Abbie and her baby boy are both safe and sound — and maybe sharing her story will help another expectant mom take their symptoms seriously, too.
