The father of a teenage boy who was accused of killing another teenager is speaking out. He believes that his son, Karmelo Anthony, is not the person the public may think he is, and he wants to make sure that people know that even though the boy is being branded a killer, there’s always more to the story.
In an exclusive interview, the father gave more insight into who his son is and what could have led to the incident. But he maintains that the boy is not the kind of kid many have assumed he is.
Andrew Anthony spoke with the New York Post about his 17-year-old son Karmelo Anthony. His son has been accused of killing 17-year-old Texas football player Austin Metcalf. Austin Metcalf ended up dying in the arms of his twin brother Hunter.
“Everyone has already made their assumptions about my son, but he’s not what they’re making him out to be,” Andrew Anthony said. “He’s a good kid. He works two jobs. He’s an A student, has a 3.7 GPA,” the father added.

According to Andrew Anthony, his son wasn’t the one who started the fight that led to Austin Metcalf’s death. Allegedly, the two boys got into a fight over a seat during a track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
“He was not the aggressor. He was not the one who started it,” Andrew Anthony said.
Karmelo Anthony was allegedly told he was sitting in the wrong seat during the track meet. When provoked, he drew a knife in defense. He then allegedly stabbed Austin Metcalf in the chest, reportedly in self-defense. Many online, including witnesses, claim that Austin got physical with Karmelo first. Austin’s twin brother Hunter was also in attendance, and tried to rush to his brother’s aid.
“I tried to whip around as fast as I could,” Hunter Metcalf said, speaking with WFAA. He added, “I looked at my brother and I’m not going to talk about the rest. I tried to help him.”
The twins’ father, Jeff Metcalf, spoke with NBC Dallas-Fort Worth, questioning the kind of upbringing Karmelo Anthony had. “I’m not trying to judge, but what kind of parents did this child have? What was he taught? He brought a knife to a track meet and he murdered my son by stabbing him in the heart,” Jeff Metcalf said. “This is murder.”
However, Karmelo Anthony’s father believes that his son made a flash judgment in the moment. “I feel bad for the other parents and family, and words can’t explain how both [families] have been affected by this tragedy,” he said.
