Man Who Allegedly Killed His Wife & Kept Her Decomposing Body Brushed It Off With Chilling Remark

Texas man Charles Byrd has been arrested after allegedly killing his wife. Police say that after he killed her, he kept her body in their home, using various methods to keep the body hidden. He allegedly told multiple people that he had committed the crime, but it wasn’t until he told his son that someone did something. Deputies arrived at his home and found what was eventually discovered to be a body. When police questioned Charles Byrd, they were surprised by his reaction. But nothing was more surprising than a comment he made about the alleged crime.

Bexar County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call at a mobile home on July 19, 2025, WOAI reported. The call came from Jared Byrd, who had told 911 operators that his father, 49-year-old Charles Byrd, confessed to killing his wife, Angela Byrd. According to Jared Byrd, his father told him, “I killed her.” Jared Byrd and his girlfriend then left the property before calling police.

When deputies arrived at the home, Jared Byrd directed them to a trailer owned by his father. According to the arrest report, they found a plastic wrapped item that was emitting a foul odor. They would later discover that the item wrapped in plastic was a decomposing body, most likely the body of Angela Byrd.

During a press conference, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said that authorities believe the person died by homicide. However, they are still awaiting the medical examiner’s official cause of death. They are also waiting for the medical examiner to confirm that the body they found belongs to Angela Byrd.

After they found the remains, police were unable to locate Charles Byrd. But they did eventually find him hiding in a nearby house.

Charles Byrd admitted to investigators that he had gotten into a fight with his wife on June 16. During the fight, he attacked her. This attack led to her death, WOAI reported. He said he then lived with the body in the home for more than 30 days, using different measures to hide the smell. According to deputies, he had told multiple people that he killed his wife. But apparently, no one took his claims seriously.

Salazar spoke about the questioning, and he was surprised at how open Byrd was. “He was very matter of fact as he described this violent encounter with Ms. Byrd,” Salazar said.

“One of the things that left a huge impression on me was when he detailed to the investigator that he had never been arrested before, that he had never committed a crime before, and then blurted out the comment to our investigator, ‘You know, go big or go home.’ And that was pretty shocking to me,” he said. Salazar also called the comment “flippant.”

Charles Byrd was arrested on Sunday, July 20, and charged with tampering with evidence with intent to impair a human corpse. Deputies expect more charges will be added as the investigation continues.
