A family in California is very lucky after a truly terrifying incident took place at their home. A woman and her child were home alone when a strange man, since identified as Jason Nichols, showed up at their door. Thankfully, the family has a Ring camera and was able to communicate with the man without having to open the door. The woman’s husband expertly handled the potential intruder, holding him off by engaging him until he could get back home or the police showed up.
During their interaction, things got scarier as Nichols became belligerent, but again, the husband was able to hold him off. Things did eventually escalate, but everyone is fine.
The footage is terrifying to watch.
In the video, which has been circulating around social media, a man later identified as Nichols apparently can be seen standing at the door of a house. He is wearing a black trench coat, a Demon Slayer shirt, and flip flops.
The homeowner can be heard speaking to Nichols through the camera, asking why he’s there. At first, he claims that he just wants to see if everything is “OK.”
But as the homeowner continues to push, Nichols claims to be a neighbor and quickly becomes violent, banging on the door aggressively and demanding, “Where is your daughter?”
The police addressed the incident on social media.

In a Facebook post, the Fairfield Police Department released a statement about the video footage after it had gone viral, calling it a “frightening incident.”
“We understand the concern this video may cause and want to provide accurate information about what occurred,” police wrote in the post. “We also want to recognize the actions of the homeowner, who worked to protect his family while officers were responding to the scene.”
Officers came to the home April 7, 2026, after being alerted that a woman and child were in the home while Nichols attempted to get inside.
At the time, the woman’s husband wasn’t home, but after interacting with Nichols through the camera, he quickly returned. As seen on the video, Nichols attempted to get inside by trying to break down the front door.
When he was unable to do so, Nichols got into the home through a sliding glass door.
UPDATE: The man seen on Ring camera footage asking, “Where is your daughter?” was able to get inside.

“As the suspect entered the home, the homeowner returned, armed himself with a shovel, and confronted Nichols,” police explained in the post. “A physical altercation ensued, during which both the homeowner and Nichols sustained head injuries.”
Video footage of the break-in also has been circulated. In the footage, the man can be heard asking 30-year-old Nichols if he was in the military in an attempt to see if maybe he was having a PTSD or CTE episode, BroBible reported. Allegedly, Nichols claimed to be military, but no evidence has been found that supports his claim.
“We are grateful that the family is safe and commend our officers for their swift response in bringing this dangerous situation to a safe resolution,” the police shared in the Facebook post.
Thankfully, he was arrested quickly.

According to police, officers “arrived within minutes” and found Nichols outside the home. They said he was “safely taken into custody without further incident” before being taken to NorthBay Medical Center for medical treatment. He was then taken and booked into Solano County Jail.
Nichols has been charged with multiple felonies that include threatening crime with the intent to terrorize, first-degree burglary, and vandalism, according to online jail records. His bail was set at $35,000, and he was expected in court on April 13.
