Grandma Found Dead on Her Floor by 6-Year-Old Grandson After She Had a Fight With Her Boyfriend

An Indianapolis man was found guilty this week of murdering his girlfriend. Jerry Lewis shot his girlfriend, Melisa Hansboro, leaving her body alone in her home. The woman was preparing to move, and when her family arrived to help, they couldn’t get ahold of her. Naturally, they were concerned, and their only solution was to break into her home. After relatives discovered her body, Lewis was quickly arrested in her death. And now, he will be going to jail.

Lewis was found guilty of murdering 54-year-old Hansboro on October 23, 2025, according to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, WTHR reported. After a three-day trial, the jury deliberated, rendering a verdict in 30 minutes.

On June 1, 2023, Hansboro was found dead inside of her home by her family. She was moving into her new home that day, and she and Lewis, who were going through a breakup, had been fighting earlier that day.

“The victim’s daughter became concerned after finding her mother’s residence locked, car missing, and when she called her phone, she could hear it ringing inside the house, but no one answered,” the prosecutor’s office said, per WTHR.

When she couldn’t reach her mother, the woman broke a window and had her children go through it, according to court documents obtained by Fox 59 at the time. The woman’s 6-year-old son was the one who found his grandmother unresponsive on the floor, the Indianapolis Star reported at the time.

Hansboro had been shot in the back of the neck, prosecutors said. The gunshot residue indicated she was shot at close range.

After Lewis shot Hansboro, prosecutors say, he went to a friend’s house, asking the friend to take him to the police station. The man allegedly told the friend he “messed up his life,” according to WTHR. Cellphone records showed that he was in the home with Hansboro at the time of her death.

“The jury’s swift verdict is a reflection of strong investigative work and a trial team determined to get this family the justice they deserve,” Prosecutor Ryan Mears shared in a statement, per the Star.

Lewis is scheduled to be sentenced November 14, according to court documents reviewed by WTHR.
