Mom Says She Truly Loves Motherhood & Sparks a Fierce Debate About ‘Easy Babies’

There’s a reason why so many moms have talked about just how hard new motherhood can be: Adding a baby to your household is a huge change. Some of us truly struggle with that adjustment, and it seems like only recently it’s become more and more accepted for moms to tell it how it really is.

But is there actually too much negativity about motherhood online? One mom on TikTok seems to think so, and she ended up sparking quite a debate.

One mom claims people are surprised that she loves motherhood.

@jadelowm No but seriously??? It seems that some people can’t get there head around the fact that you love being a mum? And want you to be struggling?? I don’t know, what does everyone else think?? #motherhood #mothers #motherhoodunplugged ♬ original sound – JadeLowman

Mom Jade Lowman shared her take on motherhood, asking her audience, “Can we please normalize accepting the fact that some moms actually love being moms?”

She went on to explain that she’d had a doctor’s appointment, and when she said she said she was “absolutely loving” being a new mom, he implied that she might have been lying.

According to her, she’s had similar exchanges with fellow moms who were surprised to find out that she wasn’t struggling.

Some moms said that she might just have an easy baby.

In the comments, some fellow moms were convinced that she loves motherhood because luck gave her an “easy baby,” rather than one with higher needs who may present a bigger challenge to a new mom.

“Maybe you got a really good baby because mine’s 4 and still doesn’t know what sleeping through the night is,” one mom wrote, joking, “I’m 37 looking 60.”

Jade responded that she wasn’t exactly well rested, either, writing, “My baby is only 4 months old but I’m yet to sleep longer then a 3 hour stretch and that’s even pushing it.”

Another mom argued that “normalizing” moms loving motherhood as the default could be harmful and cause them to “go without the extra support they need” during that time.

Others pointed out that not loving motherhood is still stigmatized.

“It can be socially unacceptable to admit you’re not enjoying motherhood or finding it difficult,” one commenter wrote. “It’s common for women to say ‘oh it’s good, it’s fine’ because they fear being judged. I think he could have phrased this better, but he did the right thing by probing you. Glad you are loving motherhood.”

It’s great to hear that Jade loves being a mom right out of the gate — that’s not always a given! But if it’s taken you a bit longer to get into your groove as a mom, just know that you’re not alone. It’s huge life transition, and if the baby stage isn’t for you, the toddler stage might be where you really shine. Just hang in there!
