Choosing a day care for your child is not an easy choice to make. There have been many horror stories about day care workers mistreating the children in their care. With every story, parents fear that their children could be next. Now, one Georgia mom is suing her son’s day care after the little one was severely burned.
The mom knows that suing the school isn’t going to change what happened. But if there’s a way to hold it accountable, she will do it. It’s the only way she can get justice for her son.
Sharece Besley’s 9-month-old son Virgil, endured months of painful recovery after being put in a scalding hot bath, she told WSB-TV. A worker at the Young Mindz Learning Academy left her son in the hot water for over three minutes.
“I had to watch them pop his blisters; no amount of pain medicine could help him,” she told the outlet.

Surveillance video of the incident was shared exclusively with WSB-TV. The footage appears to show the worker aggressively removing the baby’s clothing, the outlet reported. The worker then places the baby into a sink full of water. It isn’t until she removes Virgil that she realizes he is in pain. The video then shows her running around the day care facility in a panic for over 15 minutes.
Besley said in her lawsuit that the employee ignored policy not to bathe her son. “They were supposed to use wet wipes,” her attorney, Michael Neff said.
“I just never in a million years thought something like this would happen,” the mom said.
After the incident, the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning launched a three-month investigation. According to the state, the employee engaged in actions that are detrimental to the baby’s well-being.
Additionally, the state reported that the day care facility wasn’t following the rules for children. Children under 3 years old should be in a separate area. The video shows a young child looking over the infant after he had been burned.
“This is a multi-level fail on the business,” Neff said.
Since the investigation, the facility has been inspected again. According to the inspection, the day care has made corrections. Currently, the day care facility is in good standing with the state. And as for the employee, she was arrested and charged with cruelty to children. She was sentenced to serve probation.
“I feel like nobody’s done anything to try and make it right for him; he needs justice,” Besley said of her son.
