An American teenager is being detained in Paris after her newborn baby was killed. Police allege that the teen threw the newborn out the window. There are still a lot of details missing about the teen and her pregnancy or even why she was in Paris.
Because the newborn was killed, the young woman is now facing possible prison time. Motives are yet to be determined, and there is no word yet on whether the teen will be sent back to the United States or will have to serve time in France.

On Monday, February 24, 2025, People published a statement from the Paris prosecutor’s office. It confirmed that the newborn died, saying it was “allegedly thrown out of the window of the 2nd floor of a hotel in the 20th arrondissement.”
“The duty magistrate went to the scene. The newborn was treated urgently but did not survive,” the statement continued. Additionally, the prosecutor’s office said that it had already opened an investigation into the “homicide” of a minor.

In the statement, the teen was called “an American national.” It also said that she was a “part of a group of young adults traveling in Europe.” Local news outlet Le Parisien reported that around 6 a.m. local time, a witness told authorities that an infant had been thrown from a hotel window “with the umbilical cord” attached.
According to the statement, the teen “was taken to hospital where she is to undergo an operation following her delivery. She is also taken into custody on site. The possibility of denial of pregnancy is considered.”

A denial of pregnancy is when a mother is either unaware of or not accepting of her pregnancy, NBC News reported.
News outlet Paris Match reported that the teen was on an American study trip with other American students. “The investigation is underway and the precise circumstances of this tragedy remain to be established,” a person close to the case told the outlet.
