‘Outgoing’ & ‘Smart’ 15-Year-Old Girl Found Shot to Death After Going Missing, 18-Year-Old Charged

The family of a Washington state teen is demanding justice after her death. After reportedly talking to a young man online, Snoqualmie resident Azjanae Brooks told her family she was going to meet a friend. When her mother learned she never made it to that friend’s house, she tracked her daughter’s phone and reported her missing. Sadly, her efforts were too late. Her daughter allegedly had already been shot and killed by the same boy she had been talking to.

Not only that, but she appeared to have been physically abused as well. Now, that boy is facing serious charges, including first-degree murder.

On January 2, 2026, King County prosecutors charged 18-year-old Kamario Lee Washington Onacki with first-degree murder with a firearm enhancement, first-degree human trafficking, and second-degree assault, KIRO reported. He was 17 years old at the time of the alleged crimes.

Onacki pleaded not guilty at his January 7 arraignment. He remains in jail on a $5 million bond, which was requested by the prosecution. The charges come from the killing of Brooks, who was 15 years old.

Azjanae Brooks left home on May 30, 2025, Fox 13 Seattle reported. On June 2, a Shoreline resident called 911 to report that after she’d been away for several days, she came home to find her door unlocked, King 5 reported. According to charging documents obtained by the outlet, the woman believed someone had forced their way into the apartment. When they arrived, deputies determined the door had not been forced open. They did, however, find Brook’s body on the floor when they went inside.

A single bullet was found beneath a mattress cover, and a 9mm Luger Blazer cartridge was near the teen’s body. One witness reported hearing loud noises in the early hours of May 31, per King 5. First, there were threats, followed by a loud noise that “sounded like a hard hit or a smaller caliber firearm.”

Blood was found all over the apartment, including on walls and a frying pan, according to KIRO. A square belt buckle and a box of ammunition were also taken as evidence.

Brooks had visible injuries, including cuts and bruises on her face. Her lower body had abrasions, and her leg had marks consistent with the square belt buckle. She died from a single gunshot to the left side of her face, an autopsy found, KIRO reported.

According to both KIRO and King 5, Brooks had been communicating with Onacki via Instagram, but she believed she was messaging someone named “Trey.” Messages indicate an attempted recruitment for sex work.

Onacki had been reported as a missing and wanted juvenile out of Arizona, the outlets reported. The Arizona Department of Child Safety noted that he had an active felony warrant.

Brooks was reported missing by her family on May 31 after telling her family she was going to a friend’s house. She never arrived. Her mother, Teyoka Brooks, tracked her phone to the apartment complex where her body would eventually be found.

“My baby — she was the life of the family,” her mother told the Seattle Times. “She was outgoing, she was smart, she had a bright future ahead of her and plans for the future. And she did not deserve what happened to her at all.”

According to the newspaper, when Onacki was extradited from Los Angeles to Seattle on July 15, 2025, he showed detectives where he had been stabbed with “a glass shard” and bite marks on his leg. He told investigators all of the scars were from the same person.

“She put up a fight. She fought so hard he had scars and bruises from her fighting, trying to get away,” Teyoka Brooks shared.

“I don’t want him to ever get out, and if he comes up on parole, I want to be the face that he sees every time,” she said. “He should have let my baby come home.”
