2-Year-Old Opens Car Door While in Heavy Traffic, Causing Wild 6-Vehicle Pileup

Being stuck in heavy traffic with a toddler is more often than not a total nightmare, but who can blame them for being antsy? I don’t like sitting in the car for long periods either, especially when we’re not moving that fast. But unlike a toddler in Malaysia who recently took matters into their own hands, I’ve never tried to get out of a moving car. The little one, who was sitting in traffic in Kuala Lumpur with relatives, was tired of being in gridlock. The car was on a busy highway at the time, however, and the toddler’s attempt at escape only made matters worse when it caused a multi-vehicle accident.

The six-vehicle pileup happened around 6:15 p.m. on February 6, 2026, Malaysian outlet The Star reported. A Honda was on Jalan Tun Razak when the 2-year-old, who was sitting on a relative’s lap, opened the back left passenger door.

“It is believed that the child safety lock feature was not activated, allowing the door to be opened from inside the vehicle,” Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa shared in a statement, per The Star

According to the official, a 25-year-old motorcyclist riding between vehicles couldn’t avoid hitting the door. He “crashed into it before losing control and colliding with several other vehicles,” Mohd Zamzuri said, as cited by Malaysian outlet The Sun.

A 30-year-old motorcyclist also became involved in the accident, colliding with the first cyclist. The younger cyclist was left with a broken left arm as a result of the crash. The older cyclist only received minor injuries. None of the drivers of the four cars involved in the crash was injured.

Mohd Zamzuri said the 50-year-old woman driving the Honda “had her statement recorded while witness statements are still being processed.”

The crash was caught on film and was shared by outlet AsiaOne of Singapore. It is being investigated for careless and inconsiderate driving under the Road Transport Act.
