With the amount that college costs these days, you hope to be taught something new in class. However, one student never expected to learn that her life was a lie thanks to her professor. The situation went down in a biology class at California State University when the class was learning about a diagram that predicts the probability of a child's blood type based on his or her parents' blood type. A fellow classmate tweeted the exchange as things quickly went from educational to seriously awkward.
A classmate tweeted how a girl learned that her dad wasn't actually her dad, thanks to their professor.
A Punnett square is a diagram that's used to predict the probability of kids inheriting specific traits from parents.
The student told the professor that her dad's blood type was O, her mom was A, but she was AB and couldn't figure out why it wasn't working out on her Punnett square.

The professor assumed the girl was confused about her parents' blood types and told her it simply wasn't possible.
The professor even drew out different Punnett squares to show her that it was genetically impossible.
The professor told her to go home and double-check with her parents and they'd work it out the next day.
And here's where things get awkward ...
The professor should have seen this answer coming before he or she brought it up in front of the entire lecture.
It turns out both the girl and the professor were right. She was just wrong about who her father is.
Mom had a secret affair that nobody knew about.
So her mom had been lying to both her and her dad for her entire life.
Thanks to her professor telling her that she was wrong, she found out that her uncle is her dad (and vice versa).
Welp, that's a fun lesson to learn in front of your entire class.
The student added that her parents are getting divorced thanks to this educational lesson.
After the Twitter thread went viral, people had strong reactions to science class turning into an episode of Jerry Springer.
Some have had this paternity revelation happen in class before.
"Y'all don't even understand, Punnett squares are always exposing people," one person tweeted. "A girl in my bio class found out she was adopted bc her blood types also didn't match up."
Others think the professor should have known better and not pushed the issue.
"Teacher here – we don't use the kids' actual info anymore. We give them hypothetical data to work out the Punnett squares," another person commented. "Kids may be adopted and not know it, as well as … other things mentioned above."
And then there are some who are having a laugh at the entire situation.
"Eighteen years, eighteen years and on the 18th birthday he found out it wasn't his?!" another user added.
