Mom Accuses Day Care Provider of Slapping 2-Year-Old Across the Face & Wants Answers

When we take our kids to day care, we both hope and expect that they will be cared for and loved, just like how we would. But one mom from Phoenix, Arizona, is speaking out about her childcare problem after she learned a day care provider slapped her 2-year-old son. "It makes me not ever want to put my kids in another day care," Dominique Mourning said.

Mourning said that she only learned about the alleged assault from another day care provider at her son's school.

Although both of her young sons have been students at The Good Shepherd's Preschool for more than a year, a recent incident caused the mom to pull both boys from the program. As reported by ABC 15, last week the mom was approached by another day care provider who informed her about seeing her son's teacher slap him across the face.

The mom said that she's never had a problem with the day care in the past but noted that the program has been under new management in recent months.

After learning of the alleged assault, the mom was furious. "I’m trusting them with my child," she explained. "They’re telling me that they’re doing good for my children, and they're not."

And now that she knows her boy has been hit, it put his entire experience at Good Shepard into question. “I just want to know what was going on with my son. I just want to know if this was a one-time thing, if this happened to more students, or if this has happened to my son more than once," she said.

The mom has since filed a report with the Phoenix police, but she is still concerned about her sons' safety when they are at school.

Before turning to the police, the mom said she tried to get more information from the day care, but employees refused to answer her calls, nor will they explain what caused her son's teacher to hit him. She said they also refuse to confirm whether the teacher has been terminated.

She also claims that she asked for any surveillance footage that might have been taken on the day her son was slapped, but the school allegedly told her that they don't keep cameras in the classroom.

For now, the mom has to be satisfied with removing her boys from the facility's program and finding a new day care, but she's having a hard time trusting anyone else to watch her kids. "It makes me not ever want to put my kids in another day care," she explained. "Even the thought that I have to find a new one is making me sick.”

CafeMom reached out to The Good Shepherd Preschool but officials didn't respond with a comment. According to ABC 15, school officials also noted that the two workers were "feuding."
