Show of hands: Who among us doesn't have a somewhat unhealthy obsession with Amazon? (Yeah … that's what I thought.) And when Amazon Prime Day rolls around, it's hard not to fall into a never-ending click-hole, adding more (and more) items to your shopping cart than you would on a typical day. Alexis Thomas, a military mom of four who lives in Tokyo, Japan, is guilty of this one, too. In fact, she recently went a little overboard with her latest Amazon Prime Day purchases, and went to extra lengths so her husband wasn't aware how much she'd spent.
"Once the packages started coming in, my husband joked that I was out of control," Thomas tells CafeMom.
To be fair, the couple was staying with Thomas' mother-in-law in the US. at the time, so the constant arrival of packages felt a bit more … well, obvious.
But that's when Thomas had a sudden idea.
"His mom lives way out in the country," she explains. "So the majority of our Amazon packages were delivered UPS."
Knowing that you can update UPS orders to include notes for the delivery driver, Thomas couldn't help herself: "I updated my account to [ask to] hide them from my husband!" she tells CafeMom.
But here's the thing: When you're getting a GIANT box delivered, there's kinda no good way to hide that bad boy.
Which is exactly the predicament her UPS guy was in on July 25, when he delivered a shipment to the relative's home.
Not knowing many ways you can hide a mini fridge, the delivery person apparently resorted to desperate measures: Hiding the box under the doormat.
Well, sort of.
When Thomas spotted the giant package sitting her mother-in-law's doorstep, she burst out laughing.
"Oh my gosh, I had forgotten that I even ordered the damn thing!" she says. "When I got an email with proof of delivery, I was like 'Oh OK.' So I walk out to the front door and was so dumbfounded at first. Then I saw the note and I was uncontrollably laughing."
Thomas admits she uses Amazon "ALL the time" since her husband has been stationed overseas in the military.
"My husband just got back from a yearlong tour overseas," she says, adding that they have been relocated to Tokyo. "And I gave birth in December to a VERY colicky baby, so my online shopping was so crazy."
Still, she insists she doesn't regularly hide packages from her husband, and that her husband doesn't mind ("especially when they are for him!").
Since sharing her post, Thomas was shocked to see how quickly it's gone viral.
"It was so crazy watching the shares go up!" she admits. "I really wasn’t expecting it at all!"
Along with the shares came a whole lot of comments from people across Facebook, too — most of whom tagged their friends who (presumably) have an Amazon addiction of their own.
Others couldn't help but comment on the adorable delivery person who left the package, and likely snickered while walking back to the truck.
"He seems so proud to have achieved this goal for you too," wrote one woman on Facebook.
(My guess is, he or she is even prouder to see their handiwork now going viral!)
