Anyone who's ever been engaged knows the power a simple piece of jewelry can hold. A ring can be far more than just a sparkly accessoryring made from his own sperm — so he can give it to his wife after his upcoming vasectomy.
The dad reportedly wanted to get the ring as a "special" Christmas gift for his wife.
The anonymous father of five wanted to give it as one of his stocking stuffers, so he reached out to the online marketplace Bark and filled out a request to have a professional jewelry maker craft the ring, according to Kidspot.
“I know this is super weird, but I’m due to get a vasectomy at the end of November, and I wanted to do something funny with the last few living sperm I’ve got, kind of like a keepsake of my manhood,” he allegedly wrote in his request.
“The plan is to give the ring to my wife on Christmas day, wait for her to tell me it’s beautiful, let her wear it for a couple of hours, and then tell her what it’s actually made of … "
YIKES.
He did add that he was aware the gift was unusual, but apparently, he and his wife have a long history of prank gifts between them.
“So you don’t think I’m a complete nutter, my wife and I have been together for more than 20 years now, have five kids (hence the vasectomy haha!) and since day one we’ve been pulling pranks on each other with quirky presents," he explained. "This will hopefully be the best one yet though."
In his request, he wrote that he was hoping to spend $3,000 total for the piece.
“I know this type of jewelry can be quite expensive (I saw some breast milk ones online), so I’ve set aside around $3,000 for the ring, I’m not really looking to spend any more than that,” he continued.
People were (understandably) grossed out by the request.
"OMFG … Why is this even a thing???" one commenter wrote on Facebook.
"Just because you can doesn't mean you should," a second person chimed in. "Weirdos … "
A third woman tagged her man in the post and added, "I would rather you got me nothing for Christmas over this."
But there were at least a few people who didn't think the idea was all that bad.
"So people will happily make placentas, umbilical cords, foreskins, breast milk, hair, ashes and other body bits into jewelry, but get weirded out by sperm?" one woman wondered.
"What a great gift and funny love it!" a second person said.
"It's a bit excessive but I like the sentiment," another commenter shared.
Meanwhile, Bark founder Kai Feller admitted to Kidspot that this was possibly the company's "weirdest" request yet.
“This is definitely one of the weirdest requests we’ve received in a while, but as always we’re happy to help our customers find a professional who can facilitate their needs, no matter how obscure!” she said. “Some might disapprove, but if people are having rings made out of breast milk and human ashes, why can’t sperm be made into one as well?"
Feller then put out a call for any gifted artist to come forward and help them make the dad's Christmas wish come true.
“We urge anyone with the skills to create this type of ring to get in touch with us,” she said.
Boy oh boy, will it be interesting to see if anyone steps up to the plate …
