Dad Sees Toddler Walk Out of His Home Alone & Finds Out Babysitter Is Passed Out Drunk

Child care is one of the most important decisions a parent can make when it comes to their children. Choose wisely and your child learns that the world can be a kind and nurturing place. But selecting the wrong person to care for your child, can cause emotional and psychological damage with effects that linger well into adulthood. That doesn’t even take into account the physical danger the wrong caregiver could present.

A New Jersey family thought they’d hired a reputable babysitter for their toddler, but instead, they had actually put his life in danger.

The child's father saw his son outside on the doorbell camera.

The parents from Brigantine, New Jersey, hired babysitter Jena Davidson to watch their son while they were at work, NJ.com reported. But when the boy’s father checked the Ring security camera, he saw his son walking out of the door, unattended.

He called his neighbor to collect the child. When the neighbor returned the boy to his home, they found Davidson, 35, inside the home, unresponsive. The neighbor called police.

The parents had found her on a child care website.

Medical workers revived Davidson, who authorities say passed out after drinking alcohol.

The boy’s parents found Davidson on a website dedicated to matching parents with qualified child care providers. Davidson’s profile describes her as a live-in babysitter. She has a degree in elementary education from Penn State University. According to her profile, she has worked as a day care employee and swim instructor.

Several containers of alcohol were found.

Davidson drank the alcohol that was in the home, local news outlet Breaking AC reported. Police found an empty tequila bottle, alcohol in a mug on the counter, and an empty plastic shot bottle in Davidson’s bag.

The child’s father said the tequila bottle was not empty earlier. The investigation concluded that Davidson consumed so much of the homeowner’s alcohol that she was unconscious and unresponsive.

She has a history with drinking.

Davidson does not appear to have a criminal history, but her record does show two instances of her driving under the influence several years ago. In 2016, she left the scene of a crash after she caused property damage.

Police charged Davidson with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. After her arrest, she was released on summons.
