Dad of 6 Surprised With New Car After Biking 16 Miles a Day for Work for Months

We all know the world can seem like a dark place sometimes. The country is divided politically, families are struggling to pay for necessities such as groceries as inflation rises, people are doing wicked things on the daily, and billionaires are getting richer while the middle class is shrinking. Not to mention the day-to-day pressures we each face in our lives.

It can be a lot. But there are good people in the world, and good things are still happening. Just ask Isaac Taylor, a father of six, who recently received an unexpected gift.

Taylor's car was totaled in an accident.

Taylor, who lives in Roseville, California, has traveled to and from work on a bike for the past six months. The mode of transportation became necessary after the family car was totaled in an accident, according to CBS affiliate KOVR. As the father of five daughters and one son, age 3 to 19, the commute was inconvenient, to say the least. But Taylor, a security guard, knew he needed to keep food on the table, so he made the 16-mile round trip every day.

Taylor said biking to work was tough, but he tried to keep a positive attitude.

When Taylor got home, he’d walk his young children to school. "It was early in the morning after working a full graveyard shift, 10-hour shift. It was very tough," Taylor told KOVR. But he tried to keep a positive attitude.

Taylor, who has previously been homeless, has plenty of practice in remaining optimistic in unfavorable situations. “I’ve been through a lot,” he told Fox 11, "so struggle is just part of getting to the next big thing." For Taylor, that next big thing was a new car, which he received free of charge.

Members of Family Promise, a nonprofit organization, nominated Taylor for the car.

Family Promise members nominated him for a vehicle after learning Taylor had been living without one for six months. He was selected and is owns a newly restored 2019 Hyundai Elantra.

"I cried like a baby," Taylor said, according to KOVR. "Tears of joy. Tears of feeling the pain of riding the bike back and forth. It all set in — what I went through to get to where I'm at now."

Taylor believes there are some wonderful people in this world.

Travelers Insurance donated the car before Caliber Collision Roseville refurbished it. The good deed was made possible by the National Auto Body Council’s Recycled Rides Program, which awards cars to deserving members of the community, according to KXTV. The car was even outfitted with car seats for Taylor’s youngest children.

Taylor said the car has given him peace of mind and has allowed him to live his "best life" right now.

“There are some wonderful people,” he said. “It’s a great world we live in, even though there are a lot of bad things that go on.”
