Fetus Discovered Buried in Backyard After Teen Was Told She Couldn’t Have an Abortion

As more restrictive abortion laws are passed, disturbing stories have surfaced of desperate teens and women. Pregnant individuals have died while miscarrying because emergency rooms refused care. Recently, a fetus was discovered buried in a backyard after a teen was told she couldn’t have an abortion.

Police in Pennsylvania are investigating after the remains of a fetus were found. The discovery came months after a teenager reportedly took medication that induced an abortion after she was too far along to have an abortion at a clinic.

Police recently discovered the fetus buried in a backyard.

On March 6, 2025, a witness alerted the Susquehanna Regional Police Department to a fetus buried in a backyard, WGAL reported. Officers then executed a search warrant in East Donegal, Pennsylvania. The fetal remains were in an “advanced state of decomposition,” Dr. Stephen Diamantoni, Lancaster County’s coroner, told LancasterOnline.

A witness claimed the teen sought an abortion in 2024.

According to the witness, the teen found out she was pregnant in April 2024 with an at-home test, WGAL reported. The pregnancy was confirmed by a doctor, after which the teenager reportedly went to an abortion clinic. There, she was reportedly told she was too far along to have an abortion.

According to Pennsylvania law, abortions are banned after 24 weeks.

In Pennsylvania, abortion is legal through 23 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy. It is also permitted in “certain cases when the health of the pregnant person is in danger.” The state’s website adds, “Both medication and in-clinic procedure abortions continue to be legal and available in Pennsylvania.”

She reportedly took abortion medication obtained online.

Reportedly, the teen and her mother obtained abortion medication online, The Patriot-News reported. The pregnant teenager reportedly took the medication on May 9. A day later, she allegedly texted the friend that the fetus “came out” and referred to it as “a full baby.”

The teen reportedly texted a photo of the fetus “with the umbilical cord and placenta in what appears to be a white trash bag” to the friend, according to a search warrant, per WGAL. She allegedly said she kept the remains in a container under her bed for a few weeks before burying it.

The fetus would not have survived outside the womb and no arrests have been made.

The coroner noted the cause of death was extreme prematurity prior to viability; the manner was undetermined, per WGAL. Additionally, the remains had seemingly been buried for several months. Diamontoni also told ABC 27 that the fetus would not have survived outside of the womb.

Thus far, no arrests have been made.
