Adorable Toddler Has the Internet in Stitches After His First School Picture Day

School photos are a great way to chronicle your child’s growth from year to year. It seems like children change on a daily basis and it can be incredible to look back and see how quickly they’ve matured in one way or another. And other times these photos are a source of pure comedy for years to come. The latter was true for one mother who had a good laugh when she saw her toddler’s very first set of school pictures.

This two-year-old's look was unforgettable.

Keishaun Anderson, a mother in California, went viral after she shared her 2-year-old’s school pictures on X, formerly Twitter. In the series of four shots, Anderson’s son, Arris, wears a Black hoodie and looks down instead of into the camera. He’s scowling instead of smiling and sending a very loud, albeit nonverbal message, that he is over this whole thing. The pictures gained so much attention that Anderson had to offer some explanation behind the unforgettable look.

Anderson explained why her son might have looked this way.

“And for the people wondering about his hood, my son recently got his first hair cut he went from having a head full of hair to none. So i can understand why he didn’t want to take it off! he been tripping ever since lmaooo.” Anderson also explained that this was not the outfit she sent for him to wear on picture day. When they took class pictures the day before, little Arris pulled a similar stunt. This one with the hoodie was supposed to be a retake. This was the best this little guy had to offer.

'I was lost for words,' Anderson said of the first time she saw the pictures.

Anderson told Good Morning America that when she went to pick up Arris on September 10, his teacher was waiting at the door with a print out of the photos. “She had a paper in her hand and she just kind of held it close to her and started laughing,” Anderson recalled. “And I was like, Wait, what’s wrong? And when she handed me the pictures, I was lost for words.” While she might not have had words, Anderson definitely had a good laugh about the whole thing.

Even without a smile, little Arris is precious.

Anderson, who is a hair stylist, said that while she’s seen the expression her son has made several times, she did not expect it to show up in the pictures, especially because Arris is usually smiley and outgoing. Still, she doesn’t regret how the photos turned out. “I love the outcome of the pictures. It’s going to be a family memory for us,” she said. “These pictures are going to linger around forever. He’s not going to be able to live it down.” Anderson also said her son is photogenic. That’s clear. Even with this less than pleasant expression, Arris is adorable.
