No one ever said that blending families is easy. While there are some families that do seem to do it with grace and ease, for many, it's a challenge. One thing that certainly doesn’t help is making people feel excluded. One grandmother in England, evidently didn't realize how hurtful excluding a stepchild can be, especially during the holidays.
The internet was in a fury after a photo revealed that this grandma bought all of her biological grandkids matching Christmas pajamas — but didn't get a set for the one who "doesn’t belong to her son."
A copy of the photo was submitted to the 'Spotted: Brierley Hill and local' Facebook Group.
The post from December 13, 2021, shows six kids sitting in matching PJs near the Christmas tree — except for one child who is noticeably not part of the set.
“A friend of mine is married,” the anonymous tipster wrote along with the submission. “Mother-in-law bought matching PJ's for all kids EXCEPT the one that doesn’t belong to her son. Is she wrong?”
Most people in the comments section were absolutely furious about the slight.
"How could you treat a child different to any other child? Cruel and totally unacceptable. For me it's all or none," wrote one person.
"No child to be made to feel different," another commenter agreed.
"Yes she's wrong 'n heartless family is more [than] blood," a third person added.
While other people blamed the parents for not refusing the pajamas in the first place.
"To be absolutely honest, the parents are wrong for even letting the other kids wear them," one commenter argued. "I'd have handed them back and told her they all get or none get it's that simple. No one should ever let anyone treat their kids like that."
"It's down to the mother to speak up and defend her child," another person pointed out. "She is mother to them all. No one could treat my kids like that. Not even family."
While a third commenter didn't mince words: "I wouldn't have given the other children the pj's… some people are just damn right nasty! The mother needs to sort herself out and tell the mother-in-law where to stick them."
But we think the caption to this photo says it best: “Some people out there with no heart."
