Spring break is around the corner and summer is on the horizon. After a long, gloomy winter spent primarily indoors, millions of us across the world are already looking forward to hitting the beach. And you know the phrase “Sun’s out, buns out.” Swimsuit attire and beach rules are different than the ones we live by in everyday society.
When you go to the beach, you’ll almost always see more skin than you do anywhere else. Swimsuit fashions have changed over time, and baring your cheeks is in style. Most people recognize that we have bodily autonomy and can make our own choices … most people. One mother, however, does not. She had a complete meltdown on the beach in a moment that has been immortalized online.
One mother began arguing with another mom because she didn't like the amount of skin her daughter's swimsuit showed.
This mother who began the rant took issue with a 13-year-old’s swimsuit. “I’m saying don’t let your daughter show her a– cheeks around my 4-year-old son,” the mom shouted.
When the mother of the teen girl explained that her daughter was wearing a swimsuit, the mother of the toddler asked, “What kind of mother are you to let your daughter wear a thong and show her a– cheeks around a 4-year-old kid? She’s wearing a f—ing thong!”
She accused the 13-year-old of wearing a thong.
At this point, the 13-year-old who is off camera interjects and says, “No, I’m not.”
The mother responds to the child, “Then why are your a– cheeks hanging out?”
The confrontation could have ended there, but the angry mother wouldn't stop. Instead, she started issuing threats.
“When I f—ing knock you out, then what are you going to do? What is your video going to do then? Is your video going to help you?” she asks.
She continued threatening the mother and daughter.
She goes over to her 4-year-old boy, who is clearly aware of this unpleasant exchange, and they start packing up. At this point, the angry mother’s friend steps forward, trying to make peace.
“I agree she kind of overreacted," she says. "Just the bathing suit. Maybe you could just … She’s a little bit offended by a little bit too much skin showing, I suppose.”
While her friend is trying to de-escalate the situation, the angry mom tries to solicit a cosigner. She attempts to explain to another woman why she’s upset. The other person doesn’t bite and reminds her that they are on the beach.
Clearly perturbed, the angry mother takes her rant to another level. “If my son rapes your daughter when he’s older, it’s not my problem,” she belligerently states before the video ends.
This mother took things entirely too far.
Obviously, this woman is not well. We could have gathered as much by this entire interaction — especially how she's sexualizing both children — but that last little bit lets us know that she’s deeply disturbed and should seek help.
As a mother of a son, one of the worst things imaginable is that he would grow up to become some type of predator. The fact that she’s using this dystopian hypothetical as a threat is truly sick.
In trying to 'protect' her son, she exposed him to far worse.
If her 4-year-old has been shielded from any type of inappropriate sexual content, he’s likely not enthralled by butt cheeks. What does leave a lingering impression is your mom cussing someone out and threatening to fight that person when you thought you were just going to enjoy a fun day on the beach.
Although she’s judging this mother for her daughter’s attire, there’s no telling what type of impact her rape-rationalizing attitude and irrational behavior will have on the kind of man her son becomes.
