Although some kids are eager to go to school, the same cannot be said for all children. Many parents have experience dealing with children who are a bit reluctant to go to school, whether they insist that they're not going or say that they're not feeling well, among other attempts to stay home.
It's another experience entirely when you find out that your child simply did not show up at school after being sent there. When a 9-year-old boy's parents found out he didn't show up at school one day, they called police.

The 9-year-old boy was reported missing after he didn't arrive at school.
The incident happened in New York City. In the morning, the 9-year-old boy left his apartment to go to school, but he never arrived, WCBS-TV reported. Speaking to police, the parents described their son, who was wearing an orange tie when he left for school.
CBS News New York sent a news helicopter to the area.
After learning the child was reported missing after leaving for school, CBS News New York sent a news helicopter to the area where the family's apartment is. A reporter for the news outlet, Dan Rice, circled the building and noticed someone sitting on the rooftop. After zooming in, he realized the person sitting in a chair on the rooftop was a child.

The child on the rooftop appeared to match the description of the missing child.
Rice recalled looking "down at my notes" to "see what the assignment desk had sent me," per WCBS-TV. He looked at the description of the missing child's clothing, including the orange tie. "I look back at the child (on the rooftop), and that child was wearing everything that's in the description," Rice said.
The 9-year-old was reunited with his parents.
CBS News New York let the New York Police Department know that a boy matching the description of the missing child was on the apartment's rooftop. The news team waited for police to arrive, and once they did, the boy simply packed up his stuff and left with the police officers.
Police told the New York Post that the 9-year-old was reunited with his parents.
Reflecting on the experience, Rice called it "really gratifying" to help the parents find their missing child. "This is the first time we've seen something like this happen," he said, per WCBS-TV.
A neighbor had spotted the boy earlier in the day.
WCBS-TV later learned that a neighbor had seen the child on the roof but didn't think anything unusual was going on because the 9-year-old was merely "sitting on the bench playing on his iPad."
The neighbor told the news outlet that he assumed the child's parents had given him permission to spend time on the rooftop, which is a community space for residents.
