Naming a baby can be a real challenge. Parents want their children to have a name they love that fits their personalities and may even be unique. There are plenty of boxes to check when choosing the perfect baby name, and it takes some parents an entire pregnancy, and even time after the baby is born, to decide.
Crystal Docherty, 34, is a mom of four who lives in Scotland. Sheâs chosen unusual names for her children, and she says itâs been a source of bullying from online trolls who just canât seem to leave her alone. Still, she thinks their names are perfect.

Dochertyâs kidsâ names are one-of-a-kind.
Many say theyâve never heard of her kids' names before. She is a mother to three daughters, Solitaire-Dior, 7, Shadoramay, 6, and Malibu-Alaska, 3, and a son, Stinger, 9. She told SWNS via the New York Post, that her childrenâs names were inspired by her Traveller heritage.
âI have been upset and angry when I get trolled for their names. You shouldnât make fun of peoplesâ names. There are some names that sound weird to others but itâs up to you what names you like and choose,â the mother said.
The childrenâs names all have backstories.
According to Docherty, her son was named after his great-grandfather, and her eldest daughterâs name came from the James Bond film, Live And Let Die.
âThat name is also after the diamond â and I just added Dior because it sounded nice,â she said.
In âGypsyâ culture, âShadoraâ means holy, so she added a May to make it unique.
âI think she is the only Shadoramay in the world â Iâve seen Shadoras and Iâve seen Mays, but not both together,â Docherty said. And Malibu was a cousinâs suggestion.
The kidsâ names arenât unusual in their culture.
The mom explained that her choices arenât strange to those who know her. She said that even though people bully her for her name choices and have reportedly left death threats, she isnât fazed.
âIn our Gypsy culture, people donât have problems with names like these,â she said. âWe donât really socialize out of our own culture, so when people say my children will be bullied, thatâs not true.â

Some say sheâs accomplished that goal.
