Trolls Constantly Bully Me Over My Kids’ Unique Names & I’m Even Getting Death Threats

Naming a baby can be a real challenge. Parents want their children to have a name they love that fits their personalities and may even be unique. There are plenty of boxes to check when choosing the perfect baby name, and it takes some parents an entire pregnancy, and even time after the baby is born, to decide.

Crystal Docherty, 34, is a mom of four who lives in Scotland. She’s chosen unusual names for her children, and she says it’s been a source of bullying from online trolls who just can’t seem to leave her alone. Still, she thinks their names are perfect.

Docherty’s kids’ names are one-of-a-kind.

Many say they’ve never heard of her kids' names before. She is a mother to three daughters, Solitaire-Dior, 7, Shadoramay, 6, and Malibu-Alaska, 3, and a son, Stinger, 9. She told SWNS via the New York Post, that her children’s names were inspired by her Traveller heritage.

“I have been upset and angry when I get trolled for their names. You shouldn’t make fun of peoples’ names. There are some names that sound weird to others but it’s up to you what names you like and choose,” the mother said.

The children’s names all have backstories.

According to Docherty, her son was named after his great-grandfather, and her eldest daughter’s name came from the James Bond film, Live And Let Die.

“That name is also after the diamond — and I just added Dior because it sounded nice,” she said.

In “Gypsy” culture, “Shadora” means holy, so she added a May to make it unique.

“I think she is the only Shadoramay in the world — I’ve seen Shadoras and I’ve seen Mays, but not both together,” Docherty said. And Malibu was a cousin’s suggestion.

The kids’ names aren’t unusual in their culture.

The mom explained that her choices aren’t strange to those who know her. She said that even though people bully her for her name choices and have reportedly left death threats, she isn’t fazed.

“In our Gypsy culture, people don’t have problems with names like these,” she said. “We don’t really socialize out of our own culture, so when people say my children will be bullied, that’s not true.”

She is constantly defending their names online.

On her TikTok, @crystaldocherty777, she often claps back at the haters. In a recent video, she said that her children’s names were chosen with “love” by their mother, who loves them and wants them to be “100% unique.”

Some say she’s accomplished that goal.

One person wrote: “Your children’s names are beautiful. I have unique children names as well it’s our choice to name .. our beautiful children.”

Another agreed commenting, “your children’s names is gorgeous.”
