From our earliest days in this world, we learn about how we’re supposed to treat our neighbors. The Bible tells us to love them. Mr. Rogers invited them into the fold. We’re supposed to get along. But that’s easier said than done. In the real world, our neighbors have the ability to work our nerves on a daily basis.
We saw this phenomenon in action in a Reddit post that featured a series of notes left on someone’s front door, issuing a noise complaint. The title of the post was “Apparently no one in my building cares for kids.”
One neighbor asked another to stop slamming the door.
Someone, presumably a parent, wrote a note asking that their neighbor make an adjustment for the sake of her baby.
“Hey!” the first note starts in a friendly tone. “You mind not letting your door fall behind you and slam early in the AM + late at night?" the note reads. "It’s super loud and wakes UP our baby. Thanks! 🙂 Other people on this floor have said something about it too. So just thought we would let you know.”
Someone else responded ... but not kindly.
The correspondence didn’t end there. Another person — not the door-slammer — responded with a strongly worded disagreement.
“F— those b—– and their kid. Close your door however you want,” the second neighbor wrote.
Another neighbor said, 'F--- the Karens.'
You might have assumed the level of aggression on the initial reply would have been met with some resistance, but it wasn’t.
Instead, another person, who had different handwriting, responded with support, writing, “I agree! Ain’t nobody said s— about your door closing. F— the Karens! Let that door close however you want! Let it go!!”
Someone else didn't even know a baby was in the building.
“Hi, I didn’t want to be left out,' that person chimed in. "I heard about this thread on a door. I would like to add my 2 cents. 1. THERE’S A BABY HERE??? 2. I’ve never heard any drama about the 2nd floor. And I talk to EVERYONE.”
One final note writer found the door slammer: 'Not Guilty.'
The whole thing ended with a final note issuing a ruling in the case of the door slamming: “I find the defendant … Not Guilty! They all slam all the time.”
We don’t live in that apartment building, so who knows exactly what’s going on, but there is a good chance that these doors close and slam automatically. If that's the case, there's no harm, no foul.
Concerned parents, it’s time to activate a sound machine to block out some of the sounds of the neighborhood.
